Moving forward, surgical residency training programs will need to develop ways to optimize available surgical experiences and address the unique resident anxieties that an infectious pandemic presents. In times of public health crises, medical residency program leaders are responsible to maintain the wellbeing of their residents and ensure uninterrupted training. COVID-19 caused significant impact on healthcare industry, depleting resources and manpower, which led to disruption to graduate medical education and residency training. Surgical residents were affected by the pandemic both by reduced operative opportunities in most training centers and inducing stress and concerns about safety and wellbeing among residents. Spread of the SARS-Cov-2 was naturally accompanied with a gradual decrease in numbers of healthcare personnel which consequently increased the burden on residents. During these times of crisis and uncertainty, it is crucial that residency programs find alternative learning opportunities and deploy pre-designed, dynamic operational strategies to ensure high quality surgical services while optimizing resident safety and wellbeing. The COVID-19 crisis was a natural call for the essential need taling with this and any upcoming healthcare crises in an efficient and resident-centered way. The field of global health has grown with multiple different public and private stakeholders engaging in the effort to improve health outcomes for underserved populations around the world. There is, however, only limited published guidance on how to promote successful partnerships between academia and the biopharmaceutical industry. This analysis will provide a framework for developing successful partnerships around five central principles. This framework will then be applied to two representative pharmacy collaboration case studies focused on training and donations. Within the Academic Model Providing Access to Healthcare (AMPATH), successful collaborations between the biopharmaceutical industry philanthropic entities and academic partners have consistently prioritized 1) contextualization, 2) collaboration, 3) local priorities, 4) institutional commitment, and 5) integration. In the first case study, the application of this framework to clinical pharmacy training activities sponsored by Celgene and imiseases. Adherence to the five core principles of the proposed framework can help guide partnerships between academic institutions and the biopharmaceutical industry to advance healthcare services for underserved populations around the world. As large-scale government-based development agencies continue to primarily focus on specific disease states, biopharmaceutical industry-based collaborations can help initiate activities in underfunded therapeutic areas such as non-communicable diseases. Consumers and primary care physicians (PCPs) sometimes encounter deceptive promotional claims about prescription drugs. Whether consumers and PCPs can detect deceptive claims or whether those claims negatively affect medical decision making, however, remain important, unanswered research questions. This article explores (1) the ability of consumers and PCPs to identify deceptive prescription drug promotion at various levels of deception, (2) the influence of such tactics on obstructing risk recognition, and (3) whether perceived deception mediates relationships between exposure to deceptive tactics and various outcomes (including false-claim acceptance, attitudes, information-seeking intentions, and interest toward the promoted drug). Two experiments-1 with consumers (N=366) and 1 with PCPs (N=378)-were conducted to determine whether participant exposure to deceptive prescription drug website content corresponds to detection and acceptance (or rejection) of claims and tactics. In each experiment, the numents demonstrate potential differences between consumers and PCPs as well as implications for consumer and PCP vulnerability to website deception.Countries around the globe have responded to pandemic preparedness and developed strategies to cope with the COVID-19 crisis. In this context, the role of healthcare professionals is of paramount importance. Pharmacists are playing a vital role in dealing, preparedness, prevention, protection, promoting access to medicines and to improve health outcomes during this crisis. In this context, "Drive-thru" pharmacy services improve access to medicines while ensuring the preventive measures suggested by the World Health Organization. This commentary provides an overview of opportunities and challenges related to the implementation of "drive-thru pharmacy services" and their role in improving public health during this crisis. Previous experimental studies have provided evidence of notable changes in thyroid hormone signaling that corresponds to alterations in myocardial function in animal models of heart failure (HF). The present study further explores whether oral thyroid hormone treatment can change left ventricular (LV) mechanics and functional status in patients with idiopathic dilated cardiomyopathy (IDCM) or not. Sixty IDCM patients who were receiving conventional HF treatment were randomized to oral L-thyroxine (n=40) or placebo (n=20) for 3months. https://www.selleckchem.com/products/apx2009.html Fifty-two (86.7%) of all IDCM patients were symptomatic, their mean age was 41±12years, and their ejection fraction was 32%±7%. Myocardial longitudinal peak systolic strain, systolic strain rate, early and late diastolic strain rate, circumferential strain, LV dyssynchrony, plasma tri-iodothyronine, thyroxine, and thyroid stimulating hormonelevels were measured at baseline and 3months after treatment. All patients receiving L-thyroxine significantly improved in functional status (New York Heart Association class; P<.001) and echocardiographic parameters including end-diastolic diameter (P<.001), end-systolic diameter (P<.001), mitral regurgitation severity reduction (P<.001), and increased ejection fraction (P<.001). Left ventricular mechanics showed marked improvement at segmental and global levels of both longitudinal and circumferential myocardial strain (P<.005) when compared with placebo group. Short-term L-thyroxine therapy is well tolerated in IDCM patients. It improves cardiac mechanics and functional status, which might support the potential role of synthetic thyroid hormones in HF treatment.
