We attempt to understand the pollution characteristics and carcinogenic risk of toxic elements around Hutou Village, Xuanwei City, Yunnan Province, China. For this propose, 48 road dust samples were collected systematically, and the concentrations of Cr, Ni, Cu, Zn, As, Cd, Pb, Co, and Cr(IV) were analyzed and compared; the spatial distribution was obtained. The Igeo and EF indices and multivariate statistical analysis (CA, PCA, HACA) were carried out for source investigation, and human health risk assessment was also adopted to evaluate local non-carcinogenic and carcinogenic risks. The result showed that Cr, Ni, Cu, Cd and Co contaminations were quite serious; Zn, As, Cd, and Pb had similar distribution pattern, and Cr and Ni also shared similar distribution characteristics; Cd, Pb, Zn, and As ascribed to anthropogenic sources, while Cr and Ni originated from either anthropogenic activity or natural sources; Co and Cu originated from natural sources; the non-carcinogenic risk of Co cannot be ignored. The carcinogenic risk of Ni was considered unacceptable. Finally, an indoor coal-burning pattern was established that the high Cd and Ni inhalation and ingestion model was associated with lung cancer.Using the hen eggshells (biowaste) as a source of calcium and an environmentally friendly approach, the nanopowder composed of 74% of hydroxyapatite (HA) and 26% of β-tricalcium phosphate (β-TCP) was obtained. Due to the maximum reduction of the stages associated with the use of chemicals and energy, this method can be considered as economically and environmentally friendly. A well-developed surface area and the negative zeta potential at pH above 3.5 indicate good adsorption properties of this material. The obtained material shows high adsorption capacity towards Cu2+ ions, i.e. 105.4 mg/g at pH 5. Good fit of the Langmuir adsorption model and the pseudo-second-order kinetic model may indicate chemical adsorption probably due to the electrostatic interactions between the Cu2+ cations and the negatively charged phosphate and hydroxyl groups on the material surface.The current study aimed to investigate the protective effect of corn silk methanolic extract (CSME) against acetaminophen (APAP)-induced nephrotoxicity. The present study was carried out on 40 male Wistar albino rats, which were randomly divided into four groups (n = 10) control group, orally administered with a single dose of 1.8 ml 0.9% normal saline at the last day of the experiment; CSME group, orally received CSME (400 mg/kg BW daily for 5 weeks); APAP group, orally administered with a single dose of APAP (2 g/kg BW); and CSME and APAP group, orally administered with CSME, followed by a single oral dose of APAP. Furthermore, APAP caused marked renal damage as revealed by alterations in histopathological architectures of kidney tissues. This contribution pertains to the chronic toxicity effects of lead and its biomarker responses on the black clam, Villorita cyprinoides, largely endemic to Southern India. The metal concentration (lead (Pb), copper (Cu), zinc (Zn), cadmium (Cd), nickel (Ni), and chromium (Cr)) and contamination indices such as geoaccumulation index and contamination factor suggests that the Cochin estuarine system (CES) is moderately to heavily polluted with metals. The 96 h effective median lethal concentration (LC50) for Pb was 12.08 mg L-1 at 95% confidence level, whereas the NOEC (no observed effect concentration) and LOEC (lowest observed effect concentration) were 0.46 mg L-1 and 0.83 mg L-1 respectively. The chronic toxicity value for Pb was 0.64 mg L-1. Accumulation of Pb in V. cyprinoides after chronic toxicity test was several-fold higher than exposure concentration. On exposure to sublethal concentrations of lead, gills showed prominent pathological lesions such as damaged lateral cilia, congested hemolymph sinus, damaged abfrontal cilia, damaged ciliary filaments, fusion of gill lamellae, and reduced inter lamellar space. Filtration rate of clams exposed to Pb (86.69 ± 1.98 ml clam-1 h-1) was lower than that in control experiments (191.86 ± 6.48 ml clam-1 h-1). Antioxidant enzymes such as esterase (EST), superoxide dismutase (SOD), and malate dehydrogenase (MDH) exhibited different patterns in isoenzyme activity. Neutral red retention time (NRRT) showed a decrease from control to higher concentrations indicating membrane stability of hemocytic lysosomes decreased with the increasing metal exposure concentration. At LOEC and higher concentrations lysosomes showed enlargement and fragmentation. Lysosomal responses in V. cyprinoides can be used as a key cellular stress biomarker in assessing lead and other metal contamination.Since the power unbundling reform in 2002, China's power industry has been a typical sector moving towards marketization. The supply-side structural reform that began in 2015 has intensified the competition among China's power generation enterprises. In this context, this paper combines a data envelopment analysis (DEA) game cross-efficiency model with the Malmquist index approach to investigate the dynamic environmental efficiency of China's power generation enterprises in a competitive market. Furthermore, the system generalized method of moments (SYS-GMM) is employed to analyze the influences of factors on the dynamic environmental efficiency. The results show that (1) Compared with the basic DEA Charnes-Cooper-Rhodes (CCR)-Malmquist index model, the DEA game cross-Malmquist index approach can enhance the discrimination among the decision making units (DMUs). (2) The change in the overall dynamic environmental efficiency of China's power generation enterprises mainly comes from the catch-up effect, while technological progress has not played a role as significant as expected.
