A formation of apoptotic bodies in basal cell layer is due to a cytotoxic lymphocyte attack to the basal keratinocytes. It has been demonstrated that the cytotoxic molecules included in this attack are perforin and granzyme B. Both molecules are found upregulated in CD8+ lymphocytes that are in close contact to keratinocytes. However, their amount is lower in lichen planus than in other skin disease characterized by liquefaction and vacuolar degeneration of the basal epidermal layer. This could speculate about other cytotoxic molecule such as granulysin that could mediate keratinocyte apoptosis. Therefore, in this article we hypothesize about the crucial role of granulysin molecule in keratinocytes killing that could contribute to a lichen planus pathogenesis.As the COVID-19 pandemic continues, researchers seek to identify efficacious treatments. Current approaches to COVID-19 therapeutics focus on antiviral agents, convalescent plasma, monoclonal antibodies, immunomodulators and more traditional therapies such as steroids [1-6]. Reversing disturbances in coagulation has also been identified as a priority area for candidate therapies, such as through the Accelerating COVID-19 Therapeutic Interventions and Vaccines 4 adaptive clinical trial (ACTIV-4) which is currently evaluating aspirin, heparins and apixaban [7]. Since there is a clear relationship between mechanisms of coagulation and the immune response, it is possible that reversing disturbances in coagulation may diminish the dysregulated immune response observed in COVID-19. The basis for this hypothesis is described below and is followed by discussion of a proposed candidate therapy - activated protein C. By treating COVID-19 patients using a novel approach, which does not focus on immune-based or antiviral treatments, but instead which addresses both the anti-thrombotic and inflammatory consequences of infection, the hope is that new therapeutic targets can be considered and new candidate therapies, such as activated protein C, may be evaluated.This study investigated on the co-pyrolysis of microalgae Chlorella vulgaris and high-density polyethylene (HDPE) waste mixtures which was performed with three types of catalysts, namely limestone (LS), HZSM-5 zeolite, and novel bi-functional LS/HZSM-5/LS. Kissinger-Kai (K-K) model-free method was coupled with Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) model-fitting method using the thermogravimetric experimental data. A global sensitivity analysis was carried out using Latin Hypercube Sampling and rank transformation to assess the extent of impact of the input kinetic parameters on the output results. Furthermore, a thermodynamic analysis was performed to obtain parameters such as enthalpy change (ΔH), Gibb's free energy (ΔG), and entropy change (ΔS). The activation energy (EA) of the microalgae Chlorella vulgaris and HDPE binary mixture were found to be lower upon the addition of catalysts. Among the catalyst used, bi-functional LS/HZSM-5 catalyst exhibited the lowest EA (83.59 kJ/mol) and ΔH (78 kJ/mol) as compared to LS and HZSM-5 catalysts.This study aimed to reveal whether Cupriavidus necator H16 is suited for the production of acetoin based on the carboxylic acids acetate, butyrate and propionate under heterotrophic and mixotrophic conditions. The chosen production strain, lacking the polyhydroxybutyrate synthases phaC1 and phaC2, was revealed to be beneficiary for autotrophic acetoin production. Proteomic analysis of the strain determined that the deletions do indeed have a significant impact on pyruvate formation and its subsequent direction towards the introduced acetoin-synthesis pathway. Moreover, the strain was tested for its ability to use typical dark fermentation products under hetero- and mixotrophic conditions. Growth with butyrate and acetate led to low efficiencies, while 46.54% ±0.78 of the added propionate was converted into acetoin. Interestingly, mixotrophic conditions led to simultaneous consumption of acetate and butyrate with the gaseous substrates and lowered efficiency. In this study, a bioelectrode capable of bidirectional extracellular electron transfer was firstly introduced to construct the rechargeable microbial fuel cell (MFC).
