However, there are indications that increased growth rates may shorten trees' lifespan and thus recent increases in forest carbon stocks may be transient due to lagged increases in mortality. Here we show that growth-lifespan trade-offs are indeed near universal, occurring across almost all species and climates. This trade-off is directly linked to faster growth reducing tree lifespan, and not due to covariance with climate or environment. Thus, current tree growth stimulation will, inevitably, result in a lagged increase in canopy tree mortality, as is indeed widely observed, and eventually neutralise carbon gains due to growth stimulation. Results from a strongly data-based forest simulator confirm these expectations. MTA1 regulates the mRNA level and guides the AS of a series of mitosis regulators. MTA1 deletion abrogated the dynamic AS switches of variants for ATRX and MYBL2 at mitotic stage, which are relevant to mitosis-related tumorigenesis. MTA1 dysfunction causes defective mitotic arrest, leads to aberrant chromosome segregation, and results in chromosomal instability (CIN), eventually contributing to tumorigenesis. Currently, little is known about the RNA splicing during mitosis; here, we uncover that MTA1 binds transcripts and orchestrates dynamic splicing of mitosis regulators in tumorigenesis.Chemical fixation of carbon dioxide (CO2) may be a pathway to retard the current trend of rapid global warming. However, the current economic cost of chemical fixation remains high because the chemical fixation of CO2 usually requires high temperature or high pressure. The rational design of an efficient catalyst that works at ambient conditions might substantially reduce the economic cost of fixation. Here, we report the rational design of covalent organic frameworks (COFs) as efficient CO2 fixation catalysts under ambient conditions based on the finding of "pore enrichment", which is concluded by a detailed investigation of the 10994 COFs. The best predicted COF, Zn-Salen-COF-SDU113, is synthesized, and its efficient catalytic performance for CO2 cycloaddition to terminal epoxide is confirmed with a yield of 98.2% and turnover number (TON) of 3068.9 under ambient conditions, which is comparable to the reported leading catalysts. Moreover, this COF achieves the cycloaddition of CO2 to 2,3-epoxybutane under ambient conditions among all porous materials. This work provides a strategy for designing porous catalysts in the economic fixation of carbon dioxide.Selective deconstructive functionalization of alkenes, other than the well-established olefin metathesis and ozonolysis, to produce densely functionalized molecular scaffolds is highly attractive but challenging. Here we report an efficient photo-mediated deconstructive germinal dihalogenation of carbon-carbon double bonds. A wide range of geminal diiodoalkanes and bromo(iodo)alkanes (>40 examples) are directly prepared from various trisubstituted alkenes, including both cyclic and acyclic olefins. This C=C cleavage is highly chemoselective and produces geminal dihalide ketones in good yields. Mechanistic investigations suggest a formation of alkyl hypoiodites from benzyl alcohols and N-iodoimides, which undergo light-induced homolytic cleavage to generate active oxygen radical species.Chronic viral infections are often associated with impaired CD8+ T cell function, referred to as exhaustion. Here, we characterize the in vivo TCR signaling of virus-specific exhausted CD8+ T cells in a mouse model, leveraging TCR signaling reporter mice in combination with transcriptomics. In vivo signaling in exhausted cells is low, in contrast to their in vitro signaling potential, and despite antigen being abundantly present. Both checkpoint blockade and adoptive transfer of naïve target cells increase TCR signaling, demonstrating that engagement of co-inhibitory receptors curtails CD8+ T cell signaling and function in vivo.Electrically pumped organic lasing is one of the most challenging issues in organic optoelectronics. We present a systematic theoretical investigation to screen out electrical pumping lasing molecules over a wide range of organic materials. With the electronic structure information obtained from time-dependent density functional theory, we calculate multiple photophysical parameters of a set of optical pumping organic laser molecules in our self-developed molecular material property prediction package (MOMAP) to judge whether the electrically pumped lasing conditions can be satisfied, namely, to avoid reabsorption from excitons and/or polarons, and the accumulation of triplet excitons. In addition, a large oscillator strength of S1 and weak intermolecular π-π interaction are preferred. With these criteria, we are able to conclude that BP3T, BSBCz, and CzPVSBF compounds are promising candidates for electrically pumped lasing, and the proposed computational strategy could serve as a general protocol for molecular design of organic lasing materials.
