With timing, duration and intensity of lockdowns varying country-to-country, the wave of lockdowns in 2020 present a unique opportunity to observe how changes in human contact rates, disease control and surveillance affect dengue virus transmission in a global natural experiment. We explore the theoretical basis for the impact of lockdowns on dengue transmission and surveillance then summarise the current evidence base from country reports. We find considerable variation in the intensity of dengue epidemics reported so far in 2020 with some countries experiencing historic low levels of transmission while others are seeing record outbreaks. Further analyses might ultimately allow this unique natural experiment to provide insights into how to better control dengue that will ultimately lead to better long-term control.Since the emergence of COVID-19, thousands of people undergo chest X-ray and computed tomography scan for its screening on everyday basis. This has increased the workload on radiologists, and a number of cases are in backlog. This is not only the case for COVID-19, but for the other abnormalities needing radiological diagnosis as well. In this work, we present an automated technique for rapid diagnosis of COVID-19 on computed tomography images. The proposed technique consists of four primary steps (1) data collection and normalization, (2) extraction of the relevant features, (3) selection of the most optimal features and (4) feature classification. In the data collection step, we collect data for several patients from a public domain website, and perform preprocessing, which includes image resizing. In the successive step, we apply discrete wavelet transform and extended segmentation-based fractal texture analysis methods for extracting the relevant features. This is followed by application of an entropy controlled genetic algorithm for selection of the best features from each feature type, which are combined using a serial approach. In the final phase, the best features are subjected to various classifiers for the diagnosis. The proposed framework, when augmented with the Naive Bayes classifier, yields the best accuracy of 92.6%. The simulation results are supported by a detailed statistical analysis as a proof of concept.The algorithm of building up a model for the biological activity of peptides as a mathematical function of a sequence of amino acids is suggested. Described computational experiments confirm the ability of the approach to be a tool for the design of predictive models for the biological activity of peptides (expressed by pIC50).In this paper we propose a novel Blind Image Quality Assessment via Self-Affine Analysis (BIQSAA) method by considering the wavelet transform as a linear operation that decomposes a complex signal into elementary blocks at different scales or resolutions. BIQSAA decomposes a distorted image into a set of wavelet planes ωλ, ϕ of different spatial frequencies λ and spatial orientations ϕ, and it transforms these wavelet planes into one-dimension vector Ω using a Hilbert scanning. From the vector Ω there were obtained their wavelet coefficient fluctuations estimated by the inverse of the Hurst exponent in decibels, whose scaling-law or fractal behavior was obtained by applying Fractal Geometry or Self-Affine Analysis. The scaling exponents calculated for the coefficient fluctuation behavior of Image Lena at 24bpp, at 1.375bpp, and at 0.50bpp were H24bpp = 0.0395, H1.375bpp = 0.0551, and H0.50bpp = 0.0612, respectively. Our experiments show that BIQSAA algorithm improves in 14.36% the Human Visual System correlation, respect to the four state-of-the-art No-Reference Image Quality Assessments. Underweight, wasting, and stunting are the commonest nutritional disorders among children, especially in developing countries. The aim of this study was to assess the prevalence and determinant factors of underweight, wasting, and stunting among school-age children in 2019. A cross-sectional study was conducted in the five special districts of South Gondar Zone, among 314 school-age children. WHO AnthroPlus software was used to build Z-scores from anthropometric measurement. The data were analyzed by SPSS Version 20. The degrees of association were assessed using adjusted odds ratio (AOR) and 95% confidence interval during multivariable logistic regression. A -value less than 0.05 was considered to be statistically significant. Of the total study participants, 232 (77.3%) were from public schools. The mean±standard deviation (SD) of height of children was 132.9±9.8 cm, and the mean±SD weight of children was 27.7±5.8 kg. The prevalence of stunting, wasting, and underweight was 11%, 6.3%, and 11.4%, respectively.
