This, in turn, will improve graft rejection, not only for the cornea.Engine prognostics are critical to improve safety, reliability, and operational efficiency of an aircraft. With the development in sensor technology, multiple sensors are embedded or deployed to monitor the health condition of the aircraft engine. Thus, the challenge of engine prognostics lies in how to model and predict future health by appropriate utilization of these sensor information. In this paper, a prognostic approach is developed based on informative sensor selection and adaptive degradation modeling with functional data analysis. The presented approach selects sensors based on metrics and constructs health index to characterize engine degradation by fusing the selected informative sensors. Next, the engine degradation is adaptively modeled with the functional principal component analysis (FPCA) method and future health is prognosticated using the Bayesian inference. The prognostic approach is applied to run-to-failure data sets of C-MAPSS test-bed developed by NASA. Results show that the proposed method can effectively select the informative sensors and accurately predict the complex degradation of the aircraft engine.The objective of this paper was to evaluate the relationship between physical exercise and physical fitness with cognitive and psychosocial functioning in a group of adolescents. 167 teenagers between 14 and 15 years old (M = 14.53; SD = 0.50) from the city of Malaga (Spain) participated in the study. This research used a comparative and predictive type of design. The Tanita® Body Composition Monitor BC-601, some Eurofit battery tests, the D2 Attention Test, the WISC-IV Scale Symbols and Keys tests, the Form 5 Self-Concept Questionnaire (AF5), the General Self-Efficacy Scale (GSE) and the General Health Questionnaire (GHQ-28) were used to evaluate the study variables. The results found in this research pointed to a positive relationship between physical exercise and physical fitness with cognitive and psychosocial functioning in the adolescents analyzed. For example, adolescents who practiced more physical exercise had better scores on variables such as selective attention (p less then 0.001; η2 = 0.10), processing speed (p less then 0.001; η2 = 0.09) or general self-efficacy (p less then 0.001; η2 = 0.15). In addition, cardiorespiratory fitness was the best predictor of test scores to assess cognitive ability and psychosocial variables. CBs are composed of cellulose acetate filters-a polymer with poor biodegradability-and which, depending upon the environmental conditions, can take many years to decompose. In this study, fired clay bricks were manufactured with 0.5%, 1%, 1.5%, and 2% CBs by mass and tested against control bricks with 0% CBs. The results revealed a decrease in compressive strength from 48.6 MPa for 0% CB content bricks to 30.8 MPa for 1% CB content bricks, and a decrease in dry density with the increase in CB content, from 2114 kg/m3 for the control bricks to 1983 kg/m3 and 1969 kg/m3 for 1% and 2% CB content bricks. The highest value of water absorption appeared for 2% CB content bricks, which reached an absorption rate of 13.1% compared to 9% for the control bricks. The energy required during the firing process was calculated with a saving of up to 10.20%, for bricks incorporating 1% CBs. The thermal conductivity of the samples showed a reduction of 17% from 1.078 to 0.898 W m-1·K-1 with the addition of 1% CBs. A life-cycle assessment (LCA) is recommended to analyze the environmental impacts of bricks incorporating CBs.In this study we describe the use of an aminoethylamino-β-cyclodextrin (AEA-β-CD) as a supramolecular homogeneous catalyst for the synthesis of a series of diversely substituted quinaldine derivatives which are medicinally important, via Pfitzinger reaction. This supramolecular catalyst exhibited remarkable catalytic activity with high substrate scope to achieve the synthetic targets in good to excellent yield, 69-92%. The structural and morphological properties of the synthesized AEA-β-CD were determined through MALDI-TOF mass spectrometry, NMR, FT-IR, and SEM analysis. We have fabricated new glass surfaces coated with polypeptides which mimic a part of winter flounder antifreeze protein. We adopted glutaraldehyde and polyethylene glycol as linkers between these polypeptides and silane coupling agents applied to the glass surfaces. We have measured the contact angle, the temperature of water droplets on the cooling surfaces, and the frost weight. In addition, we have conducted surface roughness observation and surface elemental analysis. It was found that peaks in the height profile, obtained with the atomic force microscope for the polypeptide-coated surface with polyethylene glycol, were much higher than those for the surface without the polypeptide. This shows the adhesion of many polypeptide aggregates to the polyethylene glycol locally. The average supercooling temperature of the droplet for the polypeptide-coated surface with the polyethylene glycol was lower than for the polypeptide-coated surface with glutaraldehyde and the polyethylene-glycol-coated surface without the polypeptide.
