https://notes.io/wMBLj Untreated ADHD in Adults Can Lead to Feelings of Worthlessness and Depression Untreated ADHD can lead to chronic underachievement and depression. This is especially true when they fail their personal and professional objectives. It aren't always easy to determine when there are symptoms that overlap between ADHD and depression. However, identifying the signs is the first step toward finding treatment. 1. Feelings of inadequacy Many people with untreated ADHD or depression co-occurring with it are plagued by feelings of inadequateness and desperation. They may blame themselves for their difficulties believing that they're lazy or "scatterbrained" and they believe that their issues are their own fault. These negative thoughts can make it difficult to reach out for help. But it's important to keep in mind that these feelings are a result of having untreated ADHD and not a personal failure. This feeling can be exacerbated due to the fact that those with ADHD might have a harder time in key areas of their lives, like at school or at work. This can lead to frustration, increased stress and depression. Untreated ADHD patients are more likely to fall into lower income brackets. This could make depression more burdensome. It's not uncommon for symptoms of ADHD and depression to be overlapping. Someone who is depressed may feel more energetic around others, which makes it difficult to detect anxiety and sadness. The good news is that there are a variety of options for treatment. Cognitive behavioral therapy, for example is a powerful method to help you understand how you can manage your symptoms and change the way you think about them. It can also be utilized in conjunction with medication to improve focus and concentration. Sleeping enough and eating well, as well as exercising regularly can also reduce anxiety and depression while improving mood. Joining a group that is supportive and focusing on mindfulness will increase your resilience and boost you
