https://output.jsbin.com/hukacudihi/ of Wood Stoves A wood-burning stove can create a cozy and warm atmosphere in any room. New regulations have replaced the old fireplaces that billow smoke. The new DEFRA Smoke Exempt Appliances have lower emissions and permit you to burn a log in any UK smoke-control area. However, they are responsible for high levels of PM2.5. Cleaner Burning Wood burning stoves and open fires release huge quantities of fine particulates, especially when they aren't maintained in a proper manner. According to a recent study by the European Environmental Bureau a single home wood stove produces as many particulates per hour as six diesel vehicles. These emissions are a leading source of air pollution and contribute to poor health among those who live close to the roads where pollution is typically more severe. They also impact the climate, as pollutants can travel across borders and have global impacts. The good news is wood burners are cleaner now than they were before and this is due to the technological advancements. As well as prohibiting the sale of traditional house coal and limiting the sales of wet wood, which is often found on garage forecourts, the government will ensure that all new stoves sold comply with EU eco-design regulations. The new wood-burning stoves will use a more efficient method of combustion that will reduce emissions substantially. Modern log burners come with an airwash system, which is another defence against dirty glass. This works by drawing in the flow of air around the stove glass, which keeps it in good condition, even if the fire is still burning. Older wood stoves do not have this feature, which is why older models usually have sooty glass. Luckily, the majority of modern stoves come with this feature, and a good routine of cleaning will help keep it looking new. Make sure that your stove is cool and don't damage the glass with abrasive cleaners. A new wood-burning stove that complies with eco-design standards i
