Herpes simplex virus type 1 and 2 (HSV1 and HSV2) are global, widespread human pathogens transmitted by direct contact that cause lifelong, recurrent asymptomatic and painful symptomatic clinical illnesses (cold sores, keratitis, blepharitis, meningitis, encephalitis, genital infections), overt disease and severe sequelae in neonatal and immune-compromised patients, and increased risk of cervical cancer and other sexually transmitted infections, including HIV [...].The implementation of strategies to mitigate possible cases of COVID-19 were addressed at the University of Alicante for the safe reopening of the 2020/2021 academic year. To discover the prevalence of immunity against SARS-CoV-2, a study was designed using a rapid immunoassay test (carried out between 6 and 22 July 2020), and in addition a cross-sectional survey was conducted on risk factors, symptoms, predisposition for becoming vaccinated, and sources of information about COVID-19. A random sample, stratified by students, faculty, and administrative staff, was selected. The seroprevalence found was 2.64% (39/1479; 95% CI 1.8-3.4), and the adjusted seroprevalence was 2.89% (95% CI 2.1-3.7). The average age of the students was 23.2 years old, and 47.6 years old for staff. In relation to COVID-19, the following was found 17.7% pauci-symptomatic, 1.3% symptomatic, 5.5% contact with cases, 4.9% confined, and 0.3% PCR positive. More than 90% complied with preventive measures. The proportion willing to receive the COVID-19 vaccine was 91%. Their sources of information were the Internet (74%) and television (70.1%). They requested that the university offer information (45.1%), training (27%), and provide Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) (26.3%). Lastly, 87.9% would repeat the test. We aimed to determine whether Mtb strains differentially modulate cellular susceptibility to HIV-1 infection (cis- and trans-infection), via surface receptor interaction by their cell envelope lipids. Total lipids from pathogenic (lineage 4 Mtb H37Rv, CDC1551 and lineage 2 Mtb HN878, EU127) and non-pathogenic (Mycobacterium bovis BCG and Mycobacterium smegmatis) Mycobacterium strains were integrated into liposomes mimicking the lipid distribution and antigen accessibility of the mycobacterial cell wall. The resulting liposomes were tested for modulating in vitro HIV-1 cis- and trans-infection of TZM-bl cells using single-cycle infectious virus particles. Mtb glycolipids did not affect HIV-1 direct infection however, trans-infection of both R5 and X4 tropic HIV-1 strains were impaired in the presence of glycolipids from M. bovis, Mtb H37Rv and Mtb EU127 strains when using Raji-DC-SIGN cells or immature and mature dendritic cells (DCs) to capture virus. SL1, PDIM and TDM lipids were identified to be involved in DC-SIGN recognition and impairment of HIV-1 trans-infection. The traditional treatment for melanoma could not sustain satisfactory outcomes long term; however, the recent immune checkpoint treatment has made a breakthrough in these problems. Nivolumab is a representative immune checkpoint treatment, and this PD-1-targeted therapy has evolutionally developed and improved the clinical outcome in a recent decade. On the other hand, the clinical application of immune checkpoint treatment presents clinicians with novel questions, especially how to obtain additional efficacy and overcome the disadvantage by using this treatment. To answer these problems, we first investigated the distribution of PD-L1 in various organs to clarify the organs most affected by anti-PD-1 antibody treatment. Among various organs, lung, placenta, spleen, heart, and thyroid highly expressed PD-L1, while skin, thalamus, hippocampus, ovary, stomach, testis, and prostate showed lower expressions of PD-L1. Furthermore, the immune profiles were also examined in tumors and peripheral blood in patients with melanoma. PD-1 was highly expressed in CD8 and CD4 cells, and B cells also highly expressed PD-1 compared with NK cells. Then, the coupling effects of external field (heat flow direction, strain and temperature field) and internal field (defect number, geometry shape and interfacial configuration) on the interface thermal conductivity (ITC) of Gr-hBN-PH were studied. The results show phonon transmission is less affected by compression deformation under the action of force-heat-defect coupling, while phonon transmission of heterostructure is more affected by tensile deformation. The non-harmonic interaction of the atoms in the composite system is strengthened, causing the softening of high-frequency phonons. The greater reduction of thermal transport at the interface of heterostructures will be. The interface bonding morphology plays a significant role on the ITC of the Gr-hBN-PH.
