Idiopathic scoliosis (IS) patients can have body dissatisfaction which can affect their perception of health. Two body image measures, the Spinal Appearance Questionnaire (SAQ) and the Body Image Disturbance Questionnaire-Scoliosis (BIDQ-S), have been used in pediatric IS with variable correlation to the SRS-22r and radiographs, but have not been compared to each other. As patient reported outcomes (PROs) continue to be highlighted in large database studies and national hospital ranking system scoring, we should narrow use to the best and most efficient. We aim to determine which of two better correlates to pediatric IS patients' radiographs and quality of life (QoL) scores. Consecutive IS patients aged 10-19years old without surgery prospectively completed BIDQ-S, SAQ, SRS-22r, and PedsQL self-reported outcome measures. BIDQ-S and SAQ were compared in correlation to the two QoL surveys, as well as to radiographic major curve, shoulder asymmetry, lateral upright ribcage offset at apex, and coronal/sagittal balance. Spearman's r was used for correlations. 104 surveys with mean age 14.4years and mean major curve 42° (14°-74°) were included. To address this problem, a method combining multichannel PPG signals is proposed. By using a peak selection method that combines several factors based on scores, the appropriate frequency is selected from the spectrum of the PPG signals. The chosen frequency is then considered as the HR. The approach exhibits high accuracy and speed. Experimental results for 12 training sets showed that with the proposed method, an average absolute error of 1.16 beats per minute (BPM) (standard deviation 1.56 BPM) was obtained. This study investigated the protective effects of melatonin on LPS-induced testicular nitro-oxidative stress, inflammation, and associated damages in the testes of male golden hamsters, Mesocricetus auratus. Hamsters were administered with melatonin and LPS for 7 days. Testes of LPS treated hamsters showed degenerative changes (appearance of vacuoles, exfoliation, and depletion of germ cells in the seminiferous tubules), adverse effects on spermatogenesis (sperm count and viability), and steroidogenesis (declined serum and testicular testosterone). Furthermore, LPS treatment decreased melatonin content, melatonin receptor (MT1), and antioxidant potential (catalase and SOD), and simultaneously increased nitro-oxidative stress (CRP, nitrate, TNFα). LPS upregulated NF-kB, COX-2, and iNOS expressions to increase testicular inflammatory load that resulted in the decrease of germ cell proliferation and survival, thus culminating into germ cell apoptosis as indicated by AO-EB staining and caspase-3 expression. Administration of melatonin with LPS showed improved testicular histoarchitecture, sperm parameters, and testosterone level.
