The amyloid-positive group performed significantly worse than both amyloid-negative groups in the visuospatial and working memory domains. Episodic memory performance, however, effectively differentiated the amyloid-positive group from the stable but not the progressive amyloid-negative group. On affective questionnaires, the stable amyloid-negative group reported significantly higher levels of depression than the amyloid-positive group. In our clinical cohort, visuospatial dysfunction and working memory impairment were better indicators of amyloid positivity than episodic memory dysfunction. Advanced diffusion MRI can provide markers of diffuse loss of axonal fibre density or atrophy within specific white matter pathways. These markers can be interrogated in specific white matter tracts that underpin important functional domains such as sensorimotor function. This study aimed to evaluate advanced diffusion MRI markers of axonal loss within the major sensorimotor tracts of the brain, and to correlate the degree of axonal loss in these tracts to precise kinematic measures of hand and foot motor control and gait in minimally disabled people with multiple sclerosis. Twenty-eight patients (Expanded Disability Status Scale less then 4, and Kurtzke Functional System Scores for pyramidal and cerebl lesions within these tracts. In patients, reduced axonal fibre density and cross-section within the corticospinal tracts and interhemispheric sensorimotor tracts were associated with larger force tracking error and gait impairments (shorter stance, smaller step width and longer double support) (family-wise error corrected p-value less then 0.05). In conclusion, significant gait and motor control impairments can be detected in minimally disabled people with multiple sclerosis that correlated with axonal loss in major sensorimotor pathways of the brain. We utilized task functional MRI on 54 unilateral temporal lobe epilepsy patients and 24 matched healthy controls during the performance of a paired-associate memory task to address three questions (i) which regions implement paired-associate memory in temporal lobe epilepsy, and do they vary as a function of good versus poor performance, (ii) is there unique functional connectivity present during memory encoding that accounts for intact status by presization computational primacy, where left temporal lobe epilepsy showed little change relative to healthy controls, and computational support where intact left temporal lobe epilepsy patients showed adaptive abnormalities. The analyses isolated the unique regional activations and mediating functional connectivity that implements truly compensatory reorganization in left temporal lobe epilepsy. The results provided a new perspective on memory deficits by making clear that they arise not just from the knockout of a functional hub, but from the failure to instantiate a complex set of reorganization responses. Recent studies also show a bidirectional link between COVID-19 and mental health in that people with previous history of psychiatric illness have a higher risk for contracting COVID-19 and that COVID-19 patients display a variety of psychiatric illnesses. Risk factors and the response of the central nervous system to the virus show large overlaps with pathophysiological processes associated with Alzheimer's disease, delirium, post-operative cognitive dysfunction and acute disseminated encephalomyelitis, all characterized by cognitive impairment. These similarities lead to the hypothesis that the neurological symptoms could arise from neuroinflammation and immune cell dysfunction both in the periphery as well as in the central nervous system and the assumption that long-term consequences of COVID-19 may lead to cognitive impairment in the well-being of the patient and thus in today's workforce, resulting in large loss of productivity. Micronutrient deficiencies are common in patients with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). To date, the literature has focused on vitamin D, vitamin B12, and iron deficiencies. We report a case series of 20 patients with IBD and vitamin C deficiency treated at a single tertiary care center. Sixteen (80%) patients had symptoms of clinical scurvy, including arthralgia, dry brittle hair, pigmented rash, gingivitis, easy bruising, and/or brittle nails. Eighteen patients underwent a nutritional assessment, 10 (56%) patients reported complete avoidance of fruits and vegetables, and 3 (17%) reported reduced intake of fruits and vegetables. Vitamin C deficiency should be considered in IBD patients, particularly those with reduced fruit/vegetable intake, as it can lead to significant signs and symptoms.
