NCLB is the most devastating leaf disease in European maize, and the introduction of Brazilian resistance donors can efficiently increase the resistance levels of European maize germplasm. Northern corn leaf blight (NCLB) is one of the most devastating leaf pathogens in maize (Zea mays L.). Maize cultivars need to be equipped with broad and stable NCLB resistance to cope with production intensification and climate change. Brazilian germplasm is a great source to increase low NCLB resistance levels in European materials, but little is known about their effect in European environments. To investigate the usefulness of Brazilian germplasm as NCLB resistance donors, we conducted multi-parent QTL mapping, evaluated the potential of marker-assisted selection as well as genome-wide selection of 742 F -derived DH lines. For some of the so-called oncomicrobes, a direct relationship between their effect on the host organism and carcinogenesis has been demonstrated, predominantly for gastrointestinal cancers. Initial results for head and neck cancer show inter- and intraindividual differences in the local microbiota of the tumor environment, with certain bacterial strains over- or underrepresented. Our results confirm these findings, e.g., by showing a relative abundance of fusobacteria in tumor tissue while streptococci were relatively reduced. Currently available results show a high degree of inter- and intraindividual variation, thus requiring larger patient cohorts for functional analyses. The concept of dorsal preservation rhinoplasty has been known for more than acentury but has experienced arenaissance in recent years, with many critical technical modifications. We present the latest technique of piezo-assisted dorsal preservation rhinoplasty with subdorsal triangular resection and subdorsal Cottle modification based on clinical experience of 205cases. Furthermore, the advantages and disadvantages of this technique are discussed and several other current variations are presented. Piezo-assisted osteotomy enables avery precise fracture line and sparing of periosteum, with bone sculpting possible even after mobilization. Subdorsal septal height reduction always precedes completion of the osteotomy and nasal bone mobilization, to ensure patient safety with regard to skull base injury. Using the presented technical modifications, the risk of step deformities in the radix is minimized.
