Impulsivity is both a risk factor for and a consequence of alcohol use disorder (AUD), for which mindfulness-based approaches have been proven to be effective. However, the specific relationship between mindfulness and impulsivity has been little explored in the literature, especially in people with AUD. This study aims to investigate the relationship between different facets of dispositional mindfulness and impulsivity among people with AUD in an inpatient setting in Brazil. Participants ( = 165) completed the following self-report measures the Alcohol Use Disorders Identification Test (AUDIT), the Five Facets of Mindfulness Questionnaire (FFMQ-SF), and the Short UPPS-P Impulsive Behavior Scale (SUPPS-P). Multiple imputation techniques and linear models were employed to assess the relationships between dispositional mindfulness and impulsivity. Results For children with mild-moderate and severe intelligibility reduction, there was a large range of variability in parent ratings. For children with high intelligibility, ratings were consistent with intelligibility scores. There was a range of intelligibility scores within each rating, especially in the middle of the scale. Widely accepted criteria for diagnosing Substance Use Disorder (SUD) suggest parallels between narcissistic traits (e.g. invulnerability to consequences and lack of empathy for others) and the characteristics of drug abusers. Because narcissism as a concept has a long and somewhat confusing history, we first reviewed its origins in the psychoanalytic tradition of psychiatry and its exegesis into current clinical concepts in order to arrive at a set of attributes that may be useful when applied to problems of drug abuse. This process required extensive review of the literature on narcissism and its interactions with the literature on drug abuse. This process led to an understanding that positive self-concept may exemplify a variety of socially beneficial narcissism, but that at the other end of narcissism's continuum of traits may be found exploitative and non-empathetic traits. Furthermore, the negative traits of narcissism, as they may arise in adolescence along with drug use, can support an individual's ongoing dependence on drugs, especially if narcissism and drug use persist into adulthood. Our investigation of narcissism and drug use revealed, through in-depth interviewing, that some drug users employ drugs and alcohol to feed their self-concepts of superiority over other people. Our findings suggest that treatment for drug abuse cannot proceed assuming that drug users have low self-concepts. Rather, their continued use of drugs may emanate from a narcissistic sense of superiority.Dose-response by in vitro testing is only valid if the fraction of the particle dose that deposits onto adherent cells is known. Modeling tools such as the 'distorted grid' (DG) code are common practices to predict that fraction. As another challenge, workflow efficiency depends on parallelized sample preparation, for which freeze-thaw protocols have been explored earlier, but not their implications on dosimetry. Here we assess the sensitivity of the DG code toward freeze-thaw protocols and variations in user-defined parameters, including the estimation of particle-cell affinity and determination of agglomerate size, which we measure by DLS or AUC. We challenge the sensitivity by materials of varying composition, surface functionalization, and size (TiO2, CeO2, BaSO4, 2x Ag, 3x SiO2). We found that the average effective density is robust, but the dose predictions by different approaches varied typically 2-fold and up to 10-fold; this uncertainty translates directly into the uncertainty of no-effect-concentrations.
