CONCLUSIONS FREDs provided more timely care than HEDs for visits with asthma exacerbation and less timely care for acute chest pain, stroke, and sepsis, although absolute differences were small. To prevent gastric cancer, an H pylori test-and-treat strategy targeting young people has been implemented in various places in Japan. In this study, we evaluated the effectiveness of an H pylori test-and-treat strategy for second-year junior high school students in Takatsuki City. Successful H pylori eradication was confirmed by 13 C-UBT 3 months after treatment. RESULTS In total, 8067 of 13 055 students participated this project and 206 students were diagnosed with H pylori infection. The success rate of first-line therapy was 45.9% in 2014 and 83.8% after the revised first-line therapy was administered. The final eradication rate was 98.5%. There were no severe side effects. CONCLUSION Our results support the use of the H pylori test-and-treat strategy for junior high school students as a safe approach for the prevention of gastric cancer. H pylori eradication therapy with vonoprazan could be a standard therapy in children. © 2020 John Wiley & Sons Ltd.BACKGROUND The clinical presentation of European patients with mild-to-moderate Covid-19 infection is still unknown. OBJECTIVE To study the clinical presentation of Covid-19 in Europe. METHODS Patients with positive diagnosis of Covid-19 were recruited from 18 European hospitals. Epidemiological and clinical data were obtained through a standardized questionnaire. Bayesian analysis was used for analyzing the relationship between outcomes. RESULTS 1,420 patients completed the study (962 females, 30.7% of health care workers). The mean age of patients was 39.17±12.09 years. The most common symptoms were headache (70.3%), loss of smell (70.2%), nasal obstruction (67.8%), cough (63.2%), asthenia (63.3%), myalgia (62.5%), rhinorrhea (60.1%), gustatory dysfunction (54.2%) and sore throat (52.9%). Fever was reported by on 45.4%. The mean duration of Covid-19 symptoms of mild-to-moderate cured patients was 11.5±5.7 days. The prevalence of symptoms significantly varied according to age and sex. Young patients more frequently had ear, nose, and throat complaints, whereas elderly individuals often presented fever, fatigue and loss of appetite. Loss of smell, headache, nasal obstruction and fatigue were more prevalent in female patients. The loss of smell was a key symptom of mild-to-moderate Covid19 patients and was not associated with nasal obstruction and rhinorrhea. Loss of smell persisted at least 7 days after the disease in 37.5% of cured patients. CONCLUSION The clinical presentation of mild-to-moderate Covid-19 substantially varies according to the age and the sex characteristics of patients. Here we present versatile and modular RNA switches that are trans -encoded and based on tRNA mimicking structures (TMSs). These switches provide a high degree of freedom for reengineering and can thus be designed to accept a wide range of inputs including RNA, small molecules and proteins. The SCGDB meeting included scientific sessions on the molecular regulation of craniofacial development, cell biology of craniofacial development, signaling during craniofacial development, translational craniofacial biology, and for the first time, a career development workshop. Over a one hundred attendees from 21 states, and representing over 50 different scientific institutions, participated. The diverse group of scientists included cell and developmental biologists and clinical geneticists, promoting excellent discussions about molecular pathways guiding abnormal cell behaviors and the resultant morphological changes to craniofacial development. The results were high-quality science and a welcoming environment for trainees interested in craniofacial biology. © 2020 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.BACKGROUND Radiation-associated dysphagia (RAD) is highly prevalent in head and neck cancer (HNC) patients, with insufficient tongue strength (TS) as a characteristic of this disabling complication. The effects of tongue-strengthening exercises (TSE) on TS, swallowing, and quality of life (QoL) have not been studied in this population. METHODS A prospective phase 2 study using an 8 weeks during TSE protocol was carried out in 15 patients with chronic RAD. Outcome parameters were maximal isometric pressure (MIP), TS during swallowing (Pswal), swallowing function, and QoL. All parameters were evaluated at baseline, after 4 and 8 weeks of training, and 4 weeks after the last training session. RESULTS MIP increased significantly, without detraining effects. Pswal did not increase significantly, but relevant effect sizes were measured. Swallowing function ameliorated, but did not result in increased functional oral intake, self-reported outcome or QoL. CONCLUSION TSE in patients with RAD results in increased strength and swallowing function.
