Though the transition period includes unique experiences for each novice nurse, the common feelings and needs identified in these studies require nurse educators and the healthcare organizations to ensure that novice nurses are prepared and given the tools to successfully transition to professional nursing practice.In the first minute of life after birth, it is critical to effectively manage an infant's respiratory status. Given the critical nature of newborn airway management, it is vital that health professionals have the knowledge and confidence to engage in airway management procedures. Consequently, there has been a call for nurses and midwives to be prepared to skillfully enact neonatal resuscitation interventions when required, especially in low-resource environments, to help reduce neonatal death. The purpose of this study was to assess the impact of a mentorship program that involves an education component for neonatal resuscitation in the first minute after birth. The study examined changes to knowledge and self-efficacy of Rwandan nurses and midwives towards newborn airway care outcomes. A pre-/post-test, quasi-experimental study design was used to assess the changes in knowledge about and self-efficacy for neonatal resuscitation. Using a paired t-test, the results suggested that nurses' and midwives' knowledge and self-efficacy increased significantly, and participants' knowledge correlated positively to self-efficacy. Therefore, a mentorship program that supports professional development through education appears to be an effective strategy to enhance nurses' and midwives' knowledge about and self-efficacy for neonatal resuscitation and could eventually lead to neonatal practice improvements.Creatine improves flesh quality on mammalian but studies on crustaceans are scarce. In the present study, diets with six levels of creatine (1.23, 2.58, 5.12, 8.28, 14.12, 24.49 g kg-1 diet) were hand-fed to juvenile Litopenaeus vannamei (IBW 1.50 ± 0.02 g) reared in freshwater for 46 days. Results showed creatine supplementation did not affect the growth performance (FBW 17.04 ± 1.28 g) or the content of guanidinoacetic acid in muscle and hepatopancreas whereas significantly increased muscular creatine content. Diet with 8.28 g kg-1 creatine significantly increased muscular hardness and chewiness by decreasing myofiber diameter and increasing myofiber density. Additionally, creatine downregulated the mRNA expression of fast sMyHC1, sMyHC2, sMyHC6a and upregulated slow sMyHC5 and sMyHC15 mRNA expression. Muscular protein, collagen, total amino acid and flavor amino acid contents increased with creatine supplementation. This study aimed to prepare, screen and identify the angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibition peptides (ACEIPs) from C. striatus hydrolysates by response surface methodology and bioaffinity ultrafiltration coupled with LC-Orbitrap-MS/MS and molecular docking. The optimal conditions for preparing ACEIPs were hydrolysis temperature 55 °C, hydrolysis time 3 h, pH 9, solid-liquid ratio 120 g/mL, and enzyme addition 5%, the ACE inhibition and molecular weight distribution of obtained hydrolysate was 54.35% and 8770-160 Da, respectively. Seven novel ACEIPs were screened through the established high-throughput screening approach, among which, EYFR and LPGPGP showed the strongest ACE inhibition with the IC50 value of 179.2 and 186.3 μM, respectively (P > 0.05). Targets have been set to reduce sugar; however, common strategies often result in changes in flavour and consumer rejection. In this study, an approach was developed to reduce sugar in confectionery gels by aeration, without significantly affecting perceived chewiness. Gelatine based gels with a 23% and 38% reduction in density were formulated using aeration. Mean bubble size was consistent across all gels (0.05-0.06 mm). Time-intensity sensory evaluation was carried out by a trained sensory panel (n = 10). With aeration, no significant difference in overall flavour perception was observed in the 23% and 38% reduced sugar and aroma gels. Air inclusions create a greater surface area, therefore accelerating mass transfer of volatiles and release of sucrose at the food-saliva interface. Consequently, we propose that less calorie dense products can be produced without compromising flavour by using gel aeration technologies.The Chinese citrus fruit fly, Bactrocera minax (Enderlein), a devastating pest in citrus, has an obligatory diapause at the pupal stage. Although the physiology of obligatory diapause has been well described, the molecular mechanisms underlying the process remain unknow. Here we investigated the molecular mechanisms of obligatory diapause induction in B. minax using high-throughput RNA-Seq data from second-instar larva (2L), third-instar larva (3L) and pupa (P) stages. A total of 116,402 unigenes were obtained, of which 54,781 unigenes were successfully annotated in public databases, and the differentially expressed genes in the 3L vs 2L, P vs 2L, and P vs 3L comparisons were identified. The cluster co-expression patterns of the differentially expressed genes revealed that significantly differentially-expressed genes in the pupal stage were predicted to be related to diapause induction. All differentially expressed genes were investigated by GO functional and KEGG pathway analysis, and the results showed that genes involved in processes such as 20-hydroxyecdysone (20E) biosynthesis, cell cycle and metabolic pathways are likely related to obligatory diapause induction in B.
