The dipeptide d-Glu-meso-DAP (iE-DAP) is the minimal structural fragment capable of activating the innate immune receptor nucleotide-binding oligomerization domain protein (NOD1). The meso-diaminopimelic acid (meso-DAP) moiety is known to be very stringent in terms of the allowed structural modifications which still retain the NOD1 activity. The aim of our study was to further explore the chemical space around the meso-DAP portion and provide a deeper understanding of the structural features required for NOD1 agonism. In order to achieve the rigidization of the terminal amine functionality of meso-DAP, isoxazoline and pyridine heterocycles were introduced into its side-chain. Further, we incorporated the obtained meso-DAP mimetics into the structure of iE-DAP. Collectively, nine innovative iE-DAP derivatives additionally equipped with lauroyl or didodecyl moieties at the α-amino group of d-Glu have been prepared and examined for their NOD1 activating capacity. Patients are dependent on food protein labelling to successfully manage their condition. We evaluated the accuracy of protein labelling on packaged manufactured foods from supermarket websites for foods that may be eaten as part of a phenylalanine-restricted diet. Protein labelling information was evaluated for 462 food items ("free from", n = 159, regular, n = 303), divided into 16 food groups using supermarket website data. Data collection included protein content per portion/100 g when food was "as sold", "cooked" or "prepared"; cooking methods, and preparation instructions. Labelling errors affecting protein content were observed in every food group, with overall protein labelling unclear in 55% (n = 255/462) of foods. There was misleading, omitted, or erroneous (MOE) information in 43% (n = 68/159) of "free from" foods compared with 62% (n = 187/303) of regular foods, with fewer inaccuracies in "free from" food labelling (p = 0.007). Protein analysis was available for uncooked weight only but not cooked weight for 58% (n = 85/146) of foods; 4% (n = 17/462) had misleading protein content. There was a high rate of incomplete, misleading, or inaccurate data affecting the interpretation of the protein content of food items on supermarket websites. Materials and methods Fifty patients who underwent surgical decompression of the jaw cystic lesion were selected, and their preoperative and postoperative computed tomography results between 3 and 27 months were collected. Volumetric analysis was performed to evaluate any differences in the rate of volumetric change according to the sex, age, initial volume of the lesion, duration, location of the lesion, tooth extraction, expansion of the cortical layer, and pathological diagnosis. Multiple linear regression and generalised linear mixed models were used for statistical analyses. Results The mean reduction rate among all patients was 54.68%. Multiple linear regression analysis revealed that higher reduction rates were associated with a long decompression period, young patient age, and location of the cyst in the posterior maxilla. Generalised linear mixed models revealed that higher reduction rates were associated with a long decompression period and young patient age. Conclusions Decompression was an effective treatment for reducing the cyst size in all patients. Pre-dialysis fibrinogen, factor XIII (FXIII) antigen concentrations and FXIII activity were elevated, while α2-plasmin inhibitor (α2PI) activity decreased. The inflammatory status, as characterized by C-reactive protein (CRP) was a key determinant of fibrinogen concentration, but not of FXIII and α2PI levels. During a 4-h course of HDF or HD, fibrinogen concentration and FXIII levels gradually elevated. When compensated for the change in plasma water, i.e., normalized for plasma albumin concentration, only FXIII elevation remained significant. There was no difference between HDF and HD treatments.
