CAs and MTs are highly sensitive to the cellular environment and play key roles in maintaining cellular homeostasis. In addition, CAs and MTs have multiple isoforms with differentiated regulation. This review discusses current literature regarding these two families of metalloproteins in carcinogenesis, with a dialogue on the association of these two ubiquitous proteins in vitro in the context of metalation. Metalation of CA by Zn-MT and Cd-MT is described. Evidence for protein-protein interactions is introduced from changes in metalation profiles of MT from electrospray ionization mass spectrometry and the metalation rate from stopped-flow kinetics. The implications on cellular control of pH and metal donation is also discussed in the context of diseased states.Sonars are essential for underwater sensing as they can operate over extended ranges and in poor visibility conditions. The use of a synthetic aperture is a popular approach to increase the resolution of sonars, i.e., the sonar with its N transducers is positioned at k places to generate a virtual sensor with kN transducers. The state of the art for synthetic aperture sonar (SAS) is strongly coupled to constraints, especially with respect to the trajectory of the placements and the need for good navigation data. In this article, we introduce an approach to SAS using registration of scans from single arrays, i.e., at individual poses of arbitrary trajectories, hence avoiding the need for navigation data of conventional SAS systems. The approach is introduced here for the near field using the coherent phase information of sonar scans. A Delay and Sum (D&S) beamformer (BF) is used, which directly operates on pixel/voxel form on a Cartesian grid supporting the registration. It is shown that this pixel/voxel-based registration and the coherent processing of several scans forming a synthetic aperture yields substantial improvements of the image resolution. The experimental evaluation is done with an advanced simulation tool generating realistic 2D sonar array data, i.e., with simulations of a linear 1D antenna reconstructing 2D images. For the image registration of the raw sonar scans, a robust implementation of a spectral method is presented. Tissue damage is a dynamic entity and the exact extent of the injury is rarely instantly perceptible. Hence, reconstruction frequently involves a multi-stage procedure concluding with tissue replacement. Materials and Methods A retrospective study was conducted between 2006 and 2018 and included 179 patients with contaminated multi-tissue injuries treated with hyperbaric oxygen therapy, negative pressure therapy, physiotherapy and drug treatment associated with multiple surgical time in a multistep approach, focusing on pain levels and wound closure rates. Results Despite the long-term response to traumatic events, a combined approach of delayed surgical reconstructive time in mangled upper limb yielded satisfactory functional outcomes. Conclusions The complex upper limb wound with deep tissue exposure may be treated with a multi-stage procedure alternatively to immediate reconstruction. The integrated technique enables the preservation of existing healthy tissue and concurrent radical debridement, reducing the risk of infection, as well as avoiding the loss of free flaps and dehiscence due to incorrect wound estimation.Background and objectives Hip fracture is a major public health issue. Those fractures lead to high costs and a decrease in quality of life. A national French survey was conducted, with the objectives to firstly assess the current management of hip fracture and its prevention, both in the osteoporotic and cancer settings, and secondly to evaluate the opinions of physicians on the potential use of minimally invasive implantable devices to prevent hip fracture in alternative of surgery. Materials and methods This national survey was conducted in France between April and July 2017. Questionnaires were sent to orthopedic surgeons, interventional radiologists, oncologists, and rheumatologists. Completed questionnaires were analyzed and compared according to two indications orthopedics-traumatology and oncology. Factors associated with these responses were assessed using univariable analyses, based on chi-square tests or an exact Fisher test, as appropriate. https://www.selleckchem.com/products/jib-04.html Results A total of 182 questionnaires were completed and further analyzed. Physicians have highlighted the need for a low re-fracture rate and to improve life expectancy for more than 1 year (50% for responders of the orthopedics-traumatology questionnaire and 80% for the responders interested in both indications), as well as quality of life (12.5% and 31%, respectively), but with no significant differences in the oncologic indication. Most of the experts were willing to use or prescribe implantable devices for prevention (63% in orthopedics-traumatology and 93% in oncology), although limited clinical experience (54 and 58%) and surgical risk (around 30% in each indication) were considered as limits. Conclusions Prevention of hip fracture remains a concern for physicians. More clinical experience with implantable devices, in particular in cancer patients, is needed, but implemented in a strategy to maximize patient recovery while reducing costs.
