l lesions.Laboratory-scale bioreactors were used to co-digest spent coconut copra (SCC) and cow urine (CU) as a co-substrate (SCC + CU) in a batch mode under thermophilic condition (45 ± 2°C) in order to enhance biogas production. The effect of CU pretreatment on the performance indicators (biogas and biomethane yields, total solids (TS), and volatile solids (VS) reduction, pH and volatile fatty acids (VFAs) concentrations) were also examined. This was compared with mono-digestion of SCC. The experiment was performed with different mixing ratios in reactors labelled as follows A = 75 g SCC + 5 ml CU; B = 70 g SCC + 10 ml CU; C = 65 g SCC + 15 ml CU; and D (control) = 80 g SCC at a hydraulic retention time of 42 days. Co-digestion (SCC + CU) significantly improved anaerobic digestion (AD) performance resulting in a threefold and fivefold increase in biogas and biomethane production, respectively, with concomitant TS (44.9-57.7%) and VS (55.4-60.3%) removal efficiencies. But for mono-digestion (control experiment), all CU treated and co-digestion assays showed pH stability ranging between 6.6 and 7.4 and VFAs' concentrations ranging from 15-330 mgL-1. By acting as a buffer, CU effectively enhanced the AD performance of SCC as demonstrated in this study.The present article centres on institutions, that is, systems of rules that guide behaviour and interaction of socio-economic actors, and their role in advancing China's circular economy (CE), particularly in waste management (WM). Since the early 2000s, state and non-state actors in China have begun to explore CE ideas in WM resulting in a multitude of related patterns and schemes. In regard to why such systems exhibit different degrees of effectiveness, it appears that much is determined by the institutional arrangements within. Based on several years of field research in China, the article identifies and analyses key institutional ingredients for effective outcomes. Methodologically, these components are identified via an analytical model incorporating WM performance indicators and a framework for assessing interest inclusiveness. Empirically, the analysis is applied to case study findings on the informal and semi-formalised recycling sector in Beijing and Changchun. The resulting findings are synthesised into an evaluation matrix it indicates which effective informal institutional elements in waste collection and pre-processing allow for a translation into formal systems. The so-demonstrated convertibility indicates a substantial potential for the innovation of current formal WM systems in urban China.Penetrating brain injury (PBI) is the most devastating type of traumatic brain injury. Development of coagulopathy in the acute setting of PBI, though common, remains of unclear significance as does its reversal. The aim of this study is to investigate the relationship between coagulopathy and clinical presentation, radiographical features, and outcome in civilian patients with PBI. Eighty-nine adult patients with PBI at a Level I trauma center in Chicago, Illinois who survived acute resuscitation and with available coagulation profile were analyzed. Coagulopathy was defined as international normalized ratio [INR] >1.3, platelet count 37 sec. Median age (interquartile range; IQR) of our cohort was 27 (21-35) years, and 74 (83%) were male. The intent was assault in 74 cases (83%). The mechanism of PBI was gunshot wound in all patients. Forty patients (45%) were coagulopathic at presentation. In a multiple regression model, coagulopathy was associated with lower Glasgow Coma Scale (GCS)-Motor score (odds ratio [OR], 0.67; confidence interval [CI], 0.48-0.94; p = 0.02) and transfusion of blood products (OR, 3.91; CI, 1.2-12.5; p = 0.02). Effacement of basal cisterns was the only significant radiographical features associated with coagulopathy (OR, 3.34; CI, 1.08-10.37; p = 0.04). Mortality was found to be significantly more common in coagulopathic patients (73% vs. 25%; p  less then  0.001). However, in our limited sample, reversal of coagulopathy at 24 h was not associated with a statistically significant improvement in outcome. The triad of coagulopathy, low post-resuscitation GCS, and radiographical effacement of basal cisterns identify a particularly ominous phenotype of PBI. The role, and potential reversal of, coagulopathy in this group warrants further investigation.Aims To investigate the association of six-year cumulative level of socioeconomic neighbourhood disadvantage and population density with subsequent adherence to dietary recommendations, controlling for preceding dietary adherence, in adults in Finland. Methods Population-based Health and Social Support (HeSSup) study participants from four age groups (20-24, 30-34, 40-44 and 50-54 years at baseline in 1998). Data on diet and alcohol consumption were obtained from the 2003 and 2012 surveys and information on neighbourhoods from Statistics Finland Grid database (n = 10,414 men and women). Participants diet was measured as adherence to Nordic Nutrition recommendation (score range 0-100). Neighbourhood disadvantage was measured by median household income, proportion of those with primary education only and unemployment rate, and population density by the number of adult population between years 2007 and 2012. Linear models were used to assess the associations of neighbourhood characteristics with the score for adherence to dietary recommendations in 2012. Results Cumulative neighbourhood socioeconomic disadvantage was associated with slightly weaker (1.49 (95% confidence interval (CI) -1.89 to -1.09) point decrease in dietary score) adherence while higher population density was associated with better (0.70 (95% CI 0.38-1.01) point increase in dietary score) adherence to dietary recommendations. This study, a secondary analysis of a wait-list controlled, randomized trial (106 teachers, 2,195 students, 18 schools), investigated the effects of a data-driven coaching that integrated observational assessment and performance feedback on general education (GE) versus special education (SE) teacher practices and student outcomes in high-poverty urban elementary schools. Coaches used observational data via the Classroom Strategies Assessment System to identify practice needs, set goals, create plans, and monitor progress toward goals. Prior to coaching, GE and SE teachers were observed using evidence-based instructional and behavior management practices; however, some practices were at rates lower than recommended by the research literature. Results suggest that goal selection and frequency and quality of practices were generally comparable between GE and SE teachers.
