Introduction The prevalence of obesity is increasing worldwide in high, low, and middle-income countries such as Indonesia. Obesity rate is higher in females in Indonesia. Obesity has important contribution in the occurrence of insulin resistance (IR) and type 2 diabetes mellitus. Several anthropometric measurements such as waist circumference (WC), body mass index (BMI), body mass (BM), total body fat percentage (Fat%) and visceral fat (VF) are related to IR. This study aimed to investigate which of those measurements could be used as a better predictor of IR in non-menopausal Indonesian adult females. Methods Total of 80 non-menopausal Indonesian adult females ranging from 21-40 years were recruited in this study. Insulin resistance was measured by using Homeostatic Model Assessment for Insulin Resistance (HOMA-IR) equation. Subjects with HOMA-IR index >75th percentile with cut-off 2.74 were defined as IR. Waist circumference, BMI and BM were measured, while TF and VF were measured by bioelectrical impedance analysis (BIA). Results HOMA-IR had significant correlation with WC (r = 0.563, p less then 0.001), BMI (r = 0.537, p less then 0.001), BM (r = 0.515, p less then 0.001), VF (r = 0.515, p less then 0.001), Fat% (r = 0.490, p less then 0.001). The area under curve of VF (0.809), BMI (0.807), WC (0.805), and BM (0.799) are slightly larger than and Fat% (0.766). Conclusion Insulin resistance had strong correlation with all anthropometric measurements, but the correlation was less significant with Fat%.Objectives Objective of the study is to investigate whether Soft tissue mobilization (STM) can assist with static stretching to improve hamstring flexibly. Methods The design of the study was repeated measure design. The study was conducted at the physical therapy laboratory of Jamia Hamdard University, New Delhi. Participants included 78 healthy males with hamstring tightness, randomly assigned to either the control group (static stretching) or the experimental group (STM and static stretching). The experimental group received five sets of four different STM techniques, followed by two sets of 30-s static stretches 3 days per week over the course of 12 weeks. The control group received 5 min of sham ultrasound with an inactive probe prior to static stretching. Active knee extension test (AKE) was the outcome measure. Results Both groups showed significant improvement in AKE compared with the baseline measurements. With ingroup analysis showed a significant difference in AKE across all measured time periods (weeks 4, 8, and 12) with pre-test in both groups (p0.05). Conclusion The results of this study show that STM prior to static stretching does not significantly improve hamstring flexibility among healthy individuals. Although this study cannot be generalized, the results may be useful for evidence-based practice in the management of hamstring tightness.Objectives Wound healing is a complex process with a sequence of restoring and inhibition events such as cell proliferation, differentiation, migration as well as adhesion. Mesenchymal stem cells (MSC) derived conditioned medium (CM) has potent therapeutic functions and promotes cell proliferation, anti-oxidant, immunosuppressive, and anti-apoptotic effects. The main aim of this research is to study the role of human umbilical cord-mesenchymal stem cells (UC-MSCs) derived CM in stimulating the proliferation of human keratinocytes (HaCaT). Methods Firstly, MSC were isolated from human umbilical cords (UC) and the cells were then cultured in proliferative medium. We prepared and collected the CM after 72 h. Morphological changes were observed after the treatment of HaCaT cells with CM. To validate the findings, proliferation rate, clonal efficiency and also gene expression studies were performed. Results Increased proliferation rate was observed and confirmed with the expression of Proliferating Cell Nuclear Antigen (PCNA) after treatment with HaCaT cells. Cell-cell strap formation was also observed when HaCaT cells were treated with CM for a period of 5-6 days which was confirmed by the increased expression of Collagen Type 1 Alpha 1 chain (Col1A1). Conclusions Our results from present study depicts that the secretory components in the CM might play a significant role by interacting with keratinocytes to promote proliferation and migration. We highlight that immunomodulatory treatment must be tailored to the underlying immunobiology at different stages of disease.
