The purpose of this study was the identification of oleandrin and its congener oleandrigenin, detected in the vitreous humor. The blood/vitreous humor ratio was also calculated in order to assess of the likely time interval from ingestion to death. According to the toxicological results death was attributed to fatal arrhythmia due to oleander intoxication. The manner of death was classified as suicide through the ingestion of the infusion.Methamphetamine is one of the most commonly abused illicit drugs in Iran. Despite this fact, there has been relatively little research on methamphetamine-associated deaths in Iran. The present study aimed to investigate the cause of death in methamphetamine positive cases based on forensic toxicology findings In this data base descriptive study, individuals with methamphetamine-associated deaths that were referred to the Legal Medicine Organization, Tehran, Iran (2011-2018) were assessed. Deaths including those from natural causes, toxicity, accident and suicides with positive forensic toxicology analyses for methamphetamine and its metabolite amphetamine in postmortem samples were investigated. All cases were examined to determine trends in methamphetamine-associated deaths, and in the manner and causes of deaths. During the eight year study there were 1389 methamphetamine-associated deaths. The mean age was 37.47±10.87 years, with a male/female ratio of 12.3610. The methamphetamine-associated death rate increased significantly during the study period (2.05 vs. 21.93 per 106 Tehran province populations). The most common cause of death was cardiac arrest due to stimulant abuse with supportive histologic findings of acute myocardial infarction, myocardial fiber hypertrophy, aortic dissection and perivascular fibrosis (25%). https://www.selleckchem.com/products/mpp-dihydrochloride.html Opioids (methadone, tramadol and morphine), tricyclic antidepressants and benzodiazepines were frequently present in postmortem samples of study cases. Methamphetamine-associated deaths significantly contribute to illicit drug-associated deaths in Tehran and represent a substantial clinical and public health problem. In this study, we aimed to explore the beneficial properties of novel quinoline derivatives on human sperm motility and its functional competence. Nine novel quinoline derivatives were screened for their effect on motility in human spermatozoa from normozoospermic ejaculates. Compounds with impressive sperm motility enhancement properties were further assessed for their effect on functional competence of human spermatozoa. To determine the effect on the fertilizing ability of spermatozoa processed with quinoline derivatives and to assess developmental competence of embryos derived, in vitro fertilization (IVF) was performed using mouse model. Among the nine quinoline derivatives, 2 compounds (6MQT and 2,6DQT) exhibited significant enhancement in sperm progressive motility and survival at 24 h. Further, non-significant increase in curvilinear velocity (VCL), straight line velocity (VSL), and amplitude of lateral head displacement (ALH) was observed. Capacitation, intracellular cAMP level and tyrosine phosphorylated sperm proteins were significantly higher in 6MQT (P  less then  0.05) and 2,6DQT (P  less then  0.001) compared to control. In vitro fertilization (IVF) experiments using Swiss albino mice revealed that spermatozoa processed with 6MQT had non-significantly higher blastocyst rate and a superior blastocyst quality, while, 2,6DQT resulted in significantly lower blastocyst rate (P  less then  0.05) compared to control. Quinoline derivative 6MQT has significant motility enhancement property under in vitro conditions. There are some papers showing the relationship between the size and number of PWML and the prognosis of infants. However, the histopathological features are still unknown. In this study, we experimentally induced periventricular leukomalacia (PVL) in a sheep fetus model, aiming to find whether MRI can visualize necrotic foci (small incipient lesions of PVL) as PWML. Three antenatal insults were employed to induce PVL in preterm fetuses at gestational day 101-117 (i) hypoxia under intrauterine inflammation, (ii) restriction of artificial placental blood flow, and (iii) restriction of artificial placental blood flow after exposure to intrauterine inflammation. MRI was performed 3-5 days after the insults, and standard histological studies of the PVL validated its findings. Of the 89 necrotic foci detected in histological samples from nine fetuses with PVL, 78 were visualized as PWML. Four of the lesions detected as abnormal findings on MRI could not be histologically detected as corresponding abnormal findings. The diagnostic sensitivity and positive predictive values of histologic focal necrosis visualized as PWML were 0.92 and 0.95, respectively. The four lesions were excluded from these analyses. These data suggest that MRI can visualize PVL necrotic foci as PWML 3-5 days after the injury induction. PWML can spontaneously become obscure with time after birth, so their accurate diagnosis in the acute phase can prevent overlooking mild PVL.To present a new day 4 (D4) embryo grading system to assess embryos in frozen-thawed embryo transfer (FET) cycles. A new grading system (grades A-E) was developed from the 2011 ESHRE Istanbul Consensus for D4 embryos in FET cycles. Embryos with complete compaction were classified as grade A; those with partial compaction were assigned as grade B; and those without compaction were classified as grades C, D, and E according to their different blastomere number ratio (BNR; number of embryo blastomeres on D4/number of embryo blastomeres on D3, D4/D3). Embryos with a BNR of ≥ 1.5 were defined as grade C, those with a BNR of ≥ 1.2 and less then  1.5 were defined as grade D, and those with a BNR of ≥ 1.0 and less then  1.2 were defined as grade E. Using this proposed grading model, 5460 embryos with known implantation data were retrospectively analyzed after D4 transfer in FET cycles. The transferred embryos exhibited a similar declining trend in implantation and live birth rates from the top grade A to the lowest grade E.
