Trace detection of fluoride ion has gained increasing attention due to fluoride's close association with biological and environmental processes. Herein, we construct a novel hybrid nanosystem consisting of carbon dots and curcumin for sensitive and selective sensing of F-. Carbon dots are synthesized by hydrothermal treatment of 2,3-diaminopyridine and selenourea in hydrochloric acid. This material is employed as the fluorescent indicator that exhibits intense blue and yellow emission with quantum yields of 12% and 33%, respectively. Curcumin, possessing an absorption peak at 532 nm, can significantly quench the yellow fluorescence of carbon dots through inner filter effect. Curcumin is also used to specifically recognize F-. When F- is added, the curcumin-F- complex generates, which leads to the hypochromatic shift of the absorption band from 532 to 430 nm. In such a case, the inner filter effect reduces, and yellow fluorescence of carbon dots recovers. Thus, a fluorescence turn-on sensor of F- is built based on the carbon dots/curcumin system. The limits of detection and quantitation are measured to be 0.39 and 1.30 μM, respectively. For real usage, the proposed method is applied to determinate F- in tap water and milk samples with relative standard deviations below 7.9%.In April 2016, a series of earthquakes (M 7.3 on the Japan Meteorological Agency scale) occurred in Kumamoto, Japan causing serious damage to underground sewerage networks. In this study, we evaluated sewer exfiltration in groundwater in the Kumamoto area after the earthquakes by using multiple tracers. We used 14 pharmaceuticals, including carbamazepine and crotamiton, and anthropogenic Gd as tracers, and we measured concentrations of these tracers from September 2016 to November 2017 seasonally. https://www.selleckchem.com/products/b102-parp-hdac-in-1.html The detection frequency of caffeine, carbamazepine, crotamiton, ibuprofen, and anthropogenic Gd ranged from 29% to 45%, and the concentrations of the pharmaceuticals in the groundwater were lower than those in previous studies. The median of all pharmaceutical concentrations did not decrease, whereas the median of the sum of crotamiton and carbamazepine concentrations, which are quantitative sewage markers, decreased with time. The sewer exfiltration rates in September 2016 estimated using carbamazepine, crotamiton, and anthropogenic Gd were 0.59 ± 0.27%, 0.66 ± 0.47%, and 0.11 ± 0.18% of sewage dry weather flow, respectively, indicating that the effect of the earthquakes on sewer exfiltration was small, probably because the damaged sewers were quickly repaired. This study demonstrated that a multiple-tracer approach is useful for evaluating sewer exfiltration after major earthquakes.Developing a portable device for visual and on-site detection of fluoride in groundwater is highly anticipated. In this paper, 2-(tert-butyl-diphenylsilanyloxy)-5-nitro-1H-benzoimidazole (1) has been rationally designed via a silanization reaction for self-calibration detection of fluoride, and the detection limit was calculated as 0.11 μM. The contact of 1 with fluoride would induce the cleavage of Si-O bond and trigger the emergence of excited state intramolecular proton transfer (ESIPT) process, and then the enol-like emission at 437 nm decreased accompanying with the increase of keto-like tautomerism emission at 550 nm. More importantly, considering the demand of field detection for fluoride in groundwater and combining the function of smartphone to obtain the chroma of photos. The chroma value of the fluorescence color changes from blue to yellow could be conveniently determined through a color recognizer application installed in smartphone. The device can accurately reflect the concentration of fluoride by analyzing the chroma value. The test in actual water samples confirmed that the simple device based on smartphone could be used efficiently for visual, on-site and accurate detection of fluoride in groundwater. In the present work, we report a facile oxalate-derived hydrothermal method to fabricate α-, β- and δ-MnO2 catalysts with hierarchically porous structure and study the phase-dependent behavior for selective oxidation of H2S over MnO2 catalysts. It was disclosed that the oxygen vacancy, reducibility and acid property of MnO2 are essentially determined by the crystalline phase. Systematic experiments demonstrate that δ-MnO2 is superior in active oxygen species, activation energy and H2S adsorption capacity among the prepared catalysts. As a consequence, δ-MnO2 nanosphere with a hierarchically porous structure shows high activity and stability with almost 100% H2S conversion and sulfur selectivity at 210 °C, better than majority of reported Mn-based materials. Meanwhile, hierarchically porous structure of δ-MnO2 nanosphere alleviates the generation of by-product SO2 and sulfate, promoting the adoptability of Mn-based catalysts in industrial applications.Alumina nanoparticles (AlNPs) exposure causes hippocampal-dependent cognitive dysfunction. However, whether chronic stress exacerbates AlNPs-induced hippocampal lesion and its mechanism remains unclear. This study was aimed to investigate the combined effects and mechanisms of AlNPs and chronic stress on the hippocampal lesion. The behavioral tests demonstrated that combined exposure to AlNPs and chronic restraint stress (CRS) worsened both cognition and depression-like behavior than exposed to AlNPs and CRS alone. Microstructural and ultrastructural observations showed that combined exposure to AlNPs and CRS exacerbated hippocampal damage. Both AlNPs and CRS induced hippocampal neuronal ferroptosis, presenting as iron and glutamate metabolism disorder, GPX4 fluorescence of neurons decrease, LPO and ROS levels increase, and FJB-positive neurons increase. Meanwhile, combined exposure to AlNPs and CRS exacerbated hippocampal neuronal ferroptosis. Mechanism investigation revealed that combined exposure to AlNPs and CRS activated IFN-γ/ASK1/JNK signaling pathway. Furthermore, IFN-γ neutralizing antibody R4-6A2 effectively inhibited the activation of IFN-γ/ASK1/JNK signaling pathway, alleviated hippocampal neuronal ferroptosis and improved cognition ability. ASK1 inhibitor GS-4997 also improved hippocampal neuronal ferroptosis and cognitive dysfunction by inhibiting ASK1/JNK signaling pathway. Together, these results demonstrate that combined exposure to AlNPs and CRS exacerbates hippocampal neuronal ferroptosis via activating IFN-γ/ASK1/JNK signaling pathway.
