To improve the stabilities of low methoxy pectin (LMP) stabilized O/W emulsions for the delivery of bioactive substances, LMP was firstly modified with soy peptide (SP), corn peptide (CP) and whey protein peptide (WPP), respectively, by using dry-heat method, then the properties of LMP-peptide complexes stabilized O/W emulsions were characterized and the in vitro digestion of emulsions with β-carotene was test to evaluate the potential applications. LMP-peptide complexes were formed by covalent bonds according to FT-IR spectroscopy. Compared to LMP stabilized emulsions, LMP-peptide complexes stabilized emulsions had smaller droplet sizes and higher stabilities in the changed pH value, temperature and ionic strength. This parasite has a biphasic life cycle consisting of a dormant cyst stage which is environmentally resistant and transmits the infection, and the proliferative trophozoite stage which is motile and causes invasive disease. The stage conversion process remains poorly understood despite being central to amoebic biology. In this review, we will highlight recent progress in our understanding of Entamoeba stage conversion including dissecting transcriptome analysis in development, characterization of transcriptional networks, demonstration of epigenetic regulation, and role of small molecules that regulate Entamoeba development. Understanding the differences between articles that amass a high number of citations and those that receive very few allows investigators to write journal articles that maximize the impact of their research. There are minimal data regarding these two cohorts in the cardiothoracic surgery literature. We identified all primary research articles from 1998 to 2008 from The Journal of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery, The Journal of Cardiac Surgery, The Annals of Thoracic Surgery, and The European Journal of Cardio-Thoracic Surgery (n=4276). Eighty-seven of these articles accrued 0 or only 1 citation within 10y of publication. We compared this "low citation" cohort to the "high citation" cohort made up of the 87 highest-cited articles from the same journals over the same time period. When compared with the low-citation articles, high-citation articles were significantly more likely to be clinical in nature (P<0.0001), have observational study design (P<0.0001), involve multidisciplinary authorship ( their published research. Elderly patients who are injured from a low-level fall comprise an increasing percentage of trauma admissions. We sought to evaluate the prevalence of antithrombotic (anticoagulant or antiplatelet) agent use, injury patterns, and outcomes in this population, focusing on intracranial hemorrhage (ICH). We retrospectively reviewed the trauma registry at an American College of Surgeons-verified Level I trauma center for all patients aged 65y or older admitted between 2007 and 2016 following a low-level fall. Medical records of patients on antithrombotic agents were examined in detail. Patients were divided into four groups based on the presence/absence of ICH and presence/absence of preadmission antithrombotic medication use. There were 4074 elderly patients admitted after a low-level fall, of which 1153 (28.3%) had a traumatic ICH, and 1238 (30.4%) were on antithrombotic agents. Notably, 35.9% of patients on antithrombotics had an ICH, as compared to 25.0% of 2836 patients not on antithrombotics other than aspirin (P<0.
