Until POC instruments that can perform an accurate complete blood count are available, the HemoCue WBC DIFF can be used to assist physicians in making decisions in situations of postchemotherapy leukopenia and neutropenia. © 2020 John Wiley & Sons Ltd.In a phase 2 multicenter open-label randomized trial sponsored by the National Institutes of Health, simultaneous pancreas-kidney (SPK) recipients were randomized to a calcineurin inhibitor (CNI)-based immunosuppressive regimen (tacrolimus) (n = 21), or an investigational arm using low-dose CNI plus costimulation blockade (belatacept) with intended CNI withdrawal (n = 22). Both arms included induction therapy with rabbit ATG, mycophenolate sodium, or mycophenolate mofetil and rapid withdrawal of steroids. Enrollment and CNI withdrawal were stopped after 43/60 planned subjects had been enrolled. At that time, the rate of biopsy-proven acute rejection (BPAR) of the pancreas was low in both groups until CNI was withdrawn, with four of the five pancreas rejections occurring during or after CNI withdrawal. The rate of BPAR of kidney allografts was low in both control (9.5%) and investigational (9.1%) arms. Pancreas graft survival at 52 weeks, defined by insulin independence, was 21 (100%) in the control group and 19 (86%) in the investigational arm. One subject in the investigational arm died with functioning pancreas and kidney grafts. Renal function at week 52 was similar in both arms. KGaA, Weinheim.Since the discovery of graphene and its derivatives, the development and application of two-dimensional (2D) materials have attracted enormous attention. 2D microporous materials, such as metal-organic frameworks (MOFs), covalent organic frameworks (COFs), graphitic carbon nitride (g-C3 N4 ) and so on, hold great potential to be used in gas separation membranes because of their high aspect ratio and homogeneously distributed nanometer pores, which are beneficial for improving gas permeability and selectivity. This review briefly summarizes the recent design and fabrication of 2D microporous materials, as well as their applications in mixed matrix membranes (MMMs) for gas separation. The enhanced separation performances of the membranes and their long-term stability are also introduced. KGaA, Weinheim.PURPOSE This study aimed to evaluate what types and forms of support nursing staff need in providing palliative care for persons with dementia. Another aim was to compare the needs of nursing staff with different educational levels and working in home care or in nursing homes. DESIGN A cross-sectional, descriptive survey design was used. METHODS A questionnaire was administered to a convenience sample of Dutch nursing staff working in the home care or nursing home setting. Data were collected from July through October 2018. Quantitative survey data were analyzed using descriptive statistics. Data from two open-ended survey questions were investigated using content analysis. FINDINGS The sample comprised 416 respondents. Nursing staff with different educational levels and working in different settings indicated largely similar needs. The highest-ranking needs for support were in dealing with family disagreement in end-of-life decision making (58%), dealing with challenging behaviors (41%), and recognizing and managing pain (38%). The highest-ranking form of support was peer-to-peer learning (51%). If respondents would have more time to do their work, devoting personal attention would be a priority. CONCLUSIONS Nursing staff with different educational levels and working in home care or in nursing homes endorsed similar needs in providing palliative care for persons with dementia and their loved ones. CLINICAL RELEVANCE It is critical to understand the specific needs of nursing staff in order to develop tailored strategies. Interventions aimed at increasing the competence of nursing staff in providing palliative care for persons with dementia may target similar areas to support a heterogeneous group of nurses and nurse assistants, working in home care or in a nursing home. © 2020 The Authors. The aim of this study was to immunolocalize GnIH (RFRP-3) in the hypothalamus during the estrous cycle and to study the effect of putrescine on the expression of GnRH-I and GnIH through both in vivo and in vitro (GT1-7 cells) approach and the circulatory levels of GnRH-I, GnIH, and gonadotropins were also investigated. The study also aims in analyzing all the immunofluorescence images by measuring the relative pixel count of an image. This study showed the effect of putrescine on the morphology of ovary, uterus, and the expression of the steroidogenic acute regulatory protein in the ovary. This study showed GnIH expression was intense during the diestrus and moderate during proestrus and estrus, whereas mild staining during the metestrus. The study further showed that putrescine supplementation to adult female rats increased both GnRH-I expression in the hypothalamus as well as the GnRH-I levels in circulation.
