The freestanding Nafion-polyvinylidene fluoride nanofiber membrane (F-NPNM) energy harvester generates a high power (59.87 nW) owing to the enlarged interfacial area. Besides, 3D multiplexed and multi-stacked F-NPNM preconcentrators accumulate multiple preconcentrated plugs that can increase the operating sample volume and the degree of freedom of handling. Hence, the proposed process is expected to contribute to numerous research fields related to micro-nanofluidics in the future. © 2020 WILEY-VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. We set out to describe patients with ABD severe enough to trigger an acute crisis team response in ED (termed 'Code Grey') and how they differ from other MH patients. METHODS Retrospective electronic medical record review of all ED patients with MH discharge codes at a tertiary children's hospital. We assessed the epidemiology and management of patients who triggered acute crisis team interventions (Code Grey) as proxy for severe ABD. We calculated the odds ratios (ORs with 95% confidence intervals) of key demographic factors compared to other MH patients. RESULTS During 2018, there were 85 347 ED presentations of which 1695 (2.0%) were related to MH diagnoses; 84 MH patients had 141 MH presentations triggering 204 Code Greys (26 patients triggered 59% of Code Greys). These patients had higher triage acuity (OR 12.6 [8.3-19.0]), stayed longer in ED (>12 h OR 8.2 [5.1-13.1]) and were more likely to be admitted (OR 2.0 [1.4-3.0]) compared with non-Code Grey MH presentations. Patients were physically (19.2%), mechanically (31.9%) or chemically restrained (37.6%). Eight different medication approaches were used as either a single agent or a combination of oral and/or intramuscular agents. CONCLUSIONS Children and adolescents with severe ABD differ from other MH presentations and often require physical or chemical restraint. Anticipatory management plans may be valuable for repeat presenters. © 2020 Australasian College for Emergency Medicine.A 58-year-old man had rectal cancer directly invading the urinary bladder and small intestine, without distant metastasis. We successfully performed complete resection using a hybrid approach, including laparoscopic surgery and transanal total pelvic exenteration (TaTPE) with the patient in the prone jackknife (PJK) position. In the PJK position, gravity and pelvic morphology lead to a clear and wide surgical field. This case demonstrates that total pelvic exenteration using laparoscopic surgery and TaTPE in the PJK position provides a better surgical field than either TaTPE or laparoscopic surgery in the supine position. TaTPE in the PJK position may also be useful for curative surgery in locally advanced rectal cancer. © 2020 Japan Society for Endoscopic Surgery, Asia Endosurgery Task Force and John Wiley & Sons Australia, Ltd.INTRODUCTION MR enterography (MRE) is the most common imaging modality used to assess small bowel pathology, particularly patients with suspected Crohn's disease. Spasmolytic agents, most commonly Buscopan, are routinely used to reduce or cease movement/bowel activity in order to reduce blurring of the images which would otherwise reduce its diagnostic quality. The purpose of this study was to determine if administering an evenly split dose of Buscopan would improve the quality of images obtained relative to the standard single dose performed at our institution. METHODS Cine sequences through the anterior and mid-abdomen were performed to assess and document small bowel peristalsis. Additional analysis was performed by the use of digital subtraction and measuring the signal-to-noise ratio value on the subtracted image, which was used to compare the amount of small bowel movement. RESULTS A total of 34 patients who presented to the Department of Medical Imaging between October 2018 and April 2019 were included. In the anterior section, those in the split-dose group had a mean difference of 2.4 lower number of peristalsing bowel loops compared to the single-dose group (P = 0.001), while in the mid-section, those in the split-dose group had a mean difference of 2.5 lower number of peristalsing bowel loops compared to the single-dose group (P-value = 0.001). CONCLUSION Our findings indicate that split-dose Buscopan significantly reduced peristalsis compared to single-dose Buscopan, and a reduction in peristalsis reduces one aspect of motion artefact, which translates to better images. © 2020 The Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Radiologists.Reversed-phase thin layer chromatography and reversed-phase high-performance liquid chromatography were used for lipophilicity determination of a library of thirty thiazole chalcones and aurones previously synthetized in our laboratory. The experimental lipophilicity data have been compared with theoretical lipophilicity parameters estimated by various computational methods. Good correlations between the experimental and calculated lipophilicity parameters have been found for both investigated classes of compounds. Correlations between the lipophilicity of the thiazole chalcones and aurones and their antiproliferative activity were discussed. The methodologies and data gathered in this study will contribute to the lipophilicity studies of chalcones and aurones derivatives, two important classes of compounds in medicinal chemistry. Here, we identify a novel lncRNA, linc02349, which increases significantly during osteogenic differentiation. MATERIALS AND METHODS Human umbilical cord-derived stem cells (hUC-MSCs) and dental pulp mesenchymal stem cells were used. https://www.selleckchem.com/products/glutathione.html Overexpression and knockdown of linc02349 in cell lines were generated using lentiviral-mediated gene delivery method. Bioinformatics prediction, Ago2-RIP assay and dual-luciferase reporter system were employed to examine miRNA which interacts with linc02349. The RNA FISH assay was performed to identify the subcelluar location of linc02349. Alizarin Red S staining, ALP staining and qPCR were applied to identify the osteogenic differentiation. The potential linc02349-regulated genes, miR-25-3p and miR-33b-5p, were explored by ChIP, RIP and Western blotting assays. Micro-CT was used to measure the osteogenic content in bone formation assay in vivo.
