The role played by different reactive oxidative species (h+, OH ·, 1O2, and [Formula see text]) in the photocatalytic reaction was also studied by using appropriate radical scavengers that inhibited the corresponding active species. Superoxide radical was found the main oxidizing agent.Ooty lake, in the southern part of India, has raised huge concern about the role of metals in a lake due to increasing anthropogenic activities. Present study is aimed at understanding fate of trace metals in a lake's sediment. Sixteen sediment samples collected from bottom of the lake at various locations during March 2017 were analysed for trace metals cobalt, chromium, copper, iron, lead, manganese, nickel and zinc. Fe and Mn dominate total metal concentration followed by Ni and Cr. https://www.selleckchem.com/products/GSK429286A.html A high concentration of Cr, Cu, Ni and Zn in residual fraction indicates weathering as the source for these metals. A significant concentration of metals in exchangeable, reducible and oxidisable fraction indicates adsorbtion/chelation of these metals with oxides and organic matter due to change in oxic state. Geo-accumulation index for metals show unpolluted to moderate nature of sediments at all sampling locations. Moderate to significant enrichment factor of Cr, Ni and Zn indicates influence of anthropogenic sources. Co, Pb and Zn show a high amount of bioavailability for aquatic life. Other metals (Cr, Ni, Fe and Mn) show scarce to moderate bioavailability. On the other hand, a global contamination factor denotes moderate to high metal contamination of sediments in the entire lake. Statistical analysis of metals shows good inter-element correlation among metals Fe, Cr, Ni, Co, Cu and Zn indicating natural source. Influence of domestic sewage and recreational activities as the main/additional source is revealed by negative loading of Pb and Zn in principal component analysis. The present study, in essence, has identified rock weathering, as a major source of trace meals in the sediments of Ooty lake entering through stream and surface runoff from an adjacent forest area. The study has also identified high bioavailability of Pb and Zn, which is derived through the recreational activities (boating) causing permanent adverse impact.Digital textile printing (DTP) is a game-changer technology that is rapidly expanding worldwide. On the other hand, process wastewater is rich in ammoniacal and organic nitrogen, resulting in relevant issues for discharge into sewer system and treatment in centralized plants. The present research is focused on the assessment of the partial nitritation/anammox process in a single-stage granular sequencing batch reactor for on-site decentralized treatment. The technical feasibility of the process was assessed by treating wastewater from five DTP industries in a laboratory-scale reactor, in one case investigating long-term process stabilization. While experimental results indicated nitrogen removal efficiencies up to about 70%, complying with regulations on discharge in sewer system, these data were used as input for process modelling, whose successful parameter calibration was carried out. The model was applied to the simulation of two scenarios (i) the current situation of a DTP company, in which wastewater is discharged into the sewer system and treated in a centralized plant, (ii) the modified situation in which on-site decentralized treatment for DTP wastewater is implemented. The second scenario resulted in significant improvements, including reduced energy consumption (- 15%), reduced greenhouse gases emission, elimination of external carbon source for completing denitrification at centralized WWTP and reduced sludge production (- 25%).Water shortage is one of the main hinder drivers of sustainable development in the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region, and ecological restoration is one of the main means to effectively curb ecological degradation. Addressing ecological degradation in the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region has been a major concern of the Chinese government, and this has led to a focus on intensified ecological restoration efforts in this area. However, the effect of these restoration actions is not clear. To understand how ecological restoration is impacting ecological quality in the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region, we used geographical information system technology, such as the vegetation index-biomass method and cumulative net primary production (NPP) method, to assess the change in ecosystem quality. We carried out the pixel binary model and Pearson's correlation coefficient analyses to understand the driving forces behind the change. Results showed that from 2000 to 2010, the quality of the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei ecosystem has been improving, that natural vegetation is slowly re-establishing, and that there has been a slow increase toward climax communities. The change in ecosystem quality is positively correlated with the Sanbei shelterbelt and Beijing-Tianjin Sandstorm control project and negatively correlated with socioeconomic and agricultural factors.South Korea is pursuing an energy transition policy (ETP) of expanding the use of renewable energy and natural gas and decreasing that of nuclear energy and coal in total generation. An investigation of whether the public is for or against the ETP is needed by the government. This article explores the public preference toward the ETP employing the data collected through a survey of 1000 individuals. They were asked to reveal their preference for the ETP on a five-point scale in the survey. Overall, there are more advocates of the ETP than those who opposed it. For the purpose of analyzing the determinants of advocacy and opposition of the ETP, an ordered probit model is employed. The results suggest that people living in the Seoul Metropolitan area think that the environment is more important than new jobs, or know the renewable energy 100% campaign before the survey is more favorable to the ETP than others. However, people who use electricity for heating tend to be negative about the ETP. As the age increases, people approve of the ETP, but when age goes beyond a certain level, they oppose it.
