Sarma.This study explored the factors associated with the engagement of women in intimate partner homicide (IPH) through 10 in-depth interviews with women incarcerated in three correction facilities in Oromiya Regional State of Ethiopia. In addition, key informant interviews and six focus groups involving traditional leaders, Kebele administrators, and community members help triangulate the findings. The study revealed insight into women's social, psychological, and economic status prior to their crime. Low levels of education and economic opportunity, forced marriage, marital dispute due to polygamy, spousal violence, and low levels of community support were associated with IPH. In this overview, we describe the opportunities and challenges faced in many low- and middle-income countries in delivery of cervical cancer detection, treatment and complete pathways of care. In particular, drawing on our experience and that of colleagues, we describe cervical screening and pathways of care provision in Malawi, as a case study of a low-resource country with high incidence and mortality rates of cervical cancer. Screening methods such as cytology - although widely used in high-income countries - have limited relevance in many low-resource settings. The World Health Organization recommends screening using human papillomavirus testing wherever possibdels. For larger lesions and cancers, complete clinical pathways (including loop excision, surgery, radiotherapy, chemotherapy and palliative care) are required for optimal care of women. However, provision of each of these components of cancer control is often limited due to limited infrastructure and lack of trained personnel. However, it is unclear whether the standard chondrogenic medium employing transforming growth factor-β (TGFβ) isoforms is optimal to differentiate these cells. We therefore used pellet culture to screen progenitors from immature bovine articular cartilage with a number of chondrogenic factors and discovered that bone morphogenetic factor-9 (BMP9) precociously induces their differentiation. This difference was apparent with toluidine blue staining and confirmed by biochemical and transcriptional analyses with BMP9 treated progenitors exhibiting 11-fold and 5-fold greater aggrecan and collagen type II gene expression than TGFβ1 treated progenitors. Quantitative gene expression analysis over 14 days highlighted the rapid and phased nature of BMP9 induced chondrogenesis with sequential activation of aggrecan then collagen type artilage, a highly desirable attribute for in vitro tissue-engineered cartilage.BACKGROUND Stomatitis is highly prevalent in patients with cancer treated with the mammalian target of rapamycin inhibitor everolimus; it usually has an early onset and may compromise treatment dose intensity and patients' quality of life. Within the randomized controlled Stomatitis Prevention trial (STOP, ISRCTN14568888), we investigated the possibility of using a commercial natural multicomponent mouthwash (Orasol Plus®) to prevent the development of stomatitis of any grade in patients with advanced renal cell carcinoma (RCC) treated with everolimus. METHODS Overall, 62 patients were randomized to receive either Orasol Plus in addition to oral hygiene or oral hygiene alone (31 patients per treatment arm). RESULTS In the whole study population, 28 episodes of stomatitis were observed (41.9%); in only 2 patients, stomatitis occurred more than once (2 episodes). As expected, the episodes of stomatitis occurred early in the course of treatment with everolimus. Treatment with Orasol Plus prevented the onset of everolimus-induced stomatitis only 8 episodes of stomatitis were observed in the treated group with Orasol Plus in addition to oral hygiene vs 20 episodes in the group treated with oral hygiene only (p = 0021). Also, a reduction in the average duration of mucositis in patients treated with Orasol Plus compared to patients treated with oral hygiene only was observed (8 days vs 11.2 days, p = 0.0416). CONCLUSION This study showed that the use of a natural multicomponent mouthwash coupled with regular oral hygiene was able to reduce the severity and duration of everolimus-induced stomatitis in patients with RCC. TRIAL REGISTRATION NUMBER ISRCTN14568888.Responding to the need for more information concerning the mental health and psychological well-being of women living amid political oppression and war, this study aimed to explore specific factors that contribute to women's individual and collective perceptions about war and the associated traumatic life events that occurred during their lives. Moving from a socioecological and culture-informed perspective, we used narrative timelines elicited from 21 Palestinian women in Gaza, both individually and collectively, as a tool for both data collection and intervention. A deductive, top-down, thematic content analysis procedure was used to categorize data. The main events outlined by the women in their historical accounts, both individual and collective, were linked to political events in and surrounding Palestine. The life events' calendars reflect a constant attempt in balancing and compensating traumatic events with sources of well-being related to social support and family. Individual and collective narrative activities contributed to generate a significant reframing in the attribution of meaning and emotional perceptions of the participants.
