Nonfunctioning gonadotropic pituitary neuroendocrine tumors (PitNETs) are among the most frequent neoplasms of pituitary gland. Although PitNETs are commonly considered benign, a notable part of patients suffer from tumor recurrence after treatment. Invasive growth of pituitary tumor is among the most important prognostic factors. Since molecular features of invasiveness are of potential clinical usefulness, this study was aimed to verify whether invasive and noninvasive nonfunctioning gonadotropic PitNETs differ in the miRNA expression profile and whether the differences could provide a possible molecular classifier. miRNA profiles were determined in 20 patients (11 invasive and 9 noninvasive tumors) using next-generation sequencing. The expression of selected miRNAs was assessed in the independent cohort of 80 patients with qRT-PCR. When miRNA profiles of invasive and noninvasive tumors were compared, 29 miRNAs were found differentially expressed. Hsa-miR-184, hsa-miR-181a-2-3p, hsa-miR-93-3p, hsa-miR-574-5p, hsa-miR-185-5p, and hsa-miR-3200-5p showed a potential clinical value according to ROC curve analysis. Unfortunately, differential expression of only hsa-miR-185-5p was confirmed in the validation cohort, with AUG at 0.654. We sought to understand the characteristics of inquiries about digestive symptoms by doctors in different specialties; therefore, inquiry records of 2 gastroenterologists and 6 nongastroenterologists were reviewed. We compared the difference in inquiry of digestive symptoms (diarrhea, vomit, distension, anorexia, and abdominal pain) between these two groups among identified COVID-19 patients. And we further compared the difference of digestive symptoms between confirmed patients and suspected cases who excluded from COVID-19. Among 495 confirmed COVID-19 cases (254 cases by gastroenterologists and 241 cases by nongastroenterologists), 22.83% patients experienced various digestive symptoms in the gastroenterologists' group, while only 4.47% reported digestive symptoms by nongastroenterologists (p less then 0.0001). Additionally, among initially suspected 611 patients who presented with similar respiratory symptoms inquired by gastroenterologists, confirmed cases presented far more frequency of digestive symptoms than excluded cases (22.8% vs. 3.64%, p less then 0.0001). Furthermore, confirmed patients reported more percentage of watery diarrhea (56% vs. 36%, p less then 0.0001) and higher frequent vomit (2.77 ± 0.97 vs. 1.80 ± 0.45 per day, p = 0.041) than excluded cases. We concluded that gastroenterologists could detect a greater proportion of gastrointestinal symptoms in COVID-19 patients during fever clinic inquiries. Moreover, confirmed COVID-19 patients are more likely to have higher severity in digestive symptoms than excluded cases. Therefore, physicians in fever clinic should pay more attention to the triage of gastrointestinal symptoms.Distemonanthus benthamianus (Caesalpiniaceae) is a plant from the Cameroon pharmacopoeia very widely used in the treatment of many pathologies among which are gastrointestinal disorders. The main purpose of this study was to assess the healing properties of gastric ulcer from the methanolic extract of Distemonanthus benthamianus and its mechanisms of action. The healing properties of gastric ulcers (chronic ulcer model induced by ethanol and indomethacin) were evaluated in vivo in adult male rats, while the mechanisms of action were evaluated in vitro by anti-inflammatory assay (protein denaturation, cyclooxygenase, and lipoxygenase assays) and immunomodulatory assay (ROS production (using technical chemiluminescence), cytokine (TNF-α, IL-1β, IL-6) production (using ELISA), proliferation of T cells (using liquid scintillation counter), and cytotoxicity (using MTT assay)). The methanolic extract of Distemonanthus benthamianus inhibited protein denaturation (75.63%) and the activities of cyclooxygenase (78.92%) and 5-lipoxygenase (81.54%). The extract also significantly (p less then 0.001) inhibited intracellular and extracellular ROS production and T cell proliferation and reduced significantly (p less then 0.01, p less then 0.001) TNF-α, IL-1β, IL-6, and PGE2 production. At all doses (125, 250, and 500 mg/kg), the extract significantly reduces the ulceration index and the area of ulceration and significantly increases the mass of gastric mucus. In addition, the extract significantly decreases the level of MDA, significantly increases the activities of catalase and glutathione, and then improves the hematological parameters in sick animals. Histological micrographs show that in the presence of the extract, there is advanced reepithelialization with recovery of the ulcerated epithelium. Thus, the extract of Distemonanthus benthamianus has healing properties against gastric ulcers which are associated with its anti-inflammatory, immunomodulatory, and antioxidant effects.Acupuncture is widely used in the clinical treatment of liver cirrhosis (LC) in China. However, the efficacy of acupuncture on LC has not been fully confirmed by systematic analysis. This current meta-analysis evaluated the impact effect of acupuncture on patients with LC. Fifteen studies involving 1066 patients were included in the meta-analysis. The primary outcome was the efficacy rate of acupuncture therapy. The secondary outcomes were impact on acupuncture on liver function grading assessment and lab tests related to liver functions. The result suggested that acupuncture is an effective treatment option for patients with LC as a complementary therapy.
