Improved understanding of the unique, underlying white matter connections in and around this area may augment our overall understanding of language processing as well as the involvement of higher order cerebral networks like the default mode network in these functions.To date, research on inflammatory bowel disease (IBD, encompassing Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis), a chronic complex disorder, has generated a large amount of data scattered across published literature (1 06 333) listed in PubMed on 14 October 2020, and no dedicated database currently exists that catalogues information on genes associated with IBD. We aimed to manually curate 289 genes that are experimentally validated to be linked with IBD and its known phenotypes. Furthermore, we have developed an integrated platform providing information about different aspects of these genes by incorporating several resources and an extensive text-mined knowledgebase. The curated IBD database (IBDDB) allows the selective display of collated 34 subject-specific concepts (listed as columns) exportable through a user-friendly IBDDB portal. The information embedded in concepts was acquired via text-mining of PubMed (manually cleaned and curated), accompanied by data-mining from varied resources. The user can also explore different biomedical entities and their co-occurrence with other entities (about one million) from 11 curated dictionaries in the indexed PubMed records. This work aims at exploring the radioprotective effect of fucoxanthin (FX) on γ-radiation (RAD)-induced changes in the apelin-13/APJ pathway, which causes damage in the liver, kidney, lung and spleen of mice. Mice were administered FX (10 mg kg-1 day-1, i.p) and exposed to γ-radiation (2.5 Gy week-1) for four consecutive weeks. The treatment of irradiated mice by FX resulted in a significant amendment in protein expression of the apelin-13/APJ/NF-κB signalling pathway concurrently with reduced hypoxia (hypoxia-inducible factor-1α), suppressed oxidative stress marker (malondialdehyde), enhanced antioxidant defence mechanisms (reduced glutathione and glutathione peroxidase), a modulated inflammatory response [interleukin-6 (IL-6), monocyte chemoattractant protein-1, IL-10 and α-7-nicotinic acetylcholine receptor) and ameliorated angiogenic regulators [matrix metalloproteinase (MMP-2), MMP-9 and tissue inhibitor of metalloproteinase-1), as well as the tissue damage indicator (lactate dehydrogenase) in organ tissues. In addition, there were significant improvement in serum inflammatory markers tumour necrosis factor-α, IL-10, IL-1β and C-reactive protein compared with irradiated mice. The histopathological investigation of the FX + RAD organ tissues support the biochemical findings where the improvements in the tissues' architecture were obvious when compared with those of RAD. FX was thus shown to have a noticeable radioprotective action mediated through its regulatory effect on the apelin-13/APJ/NF-κB signalling pathway attributed to its antioxidant and anti-inflammatory activity that was reflected in different physiological processes. It could be recommended to use FX in cases of radiation exposure to protect normal tissues.Previous studies have shown that Dnmt2-null sperm block the paternal transmission (through sperm) of certain acquired traits, e.g., high fat diet-induced metabolic disorders or white tails due to a Kit paramutation. Here, we report that DNMT2 is also required for the transmission of a Kit paramutant phenotype (white tail tip) through the female germline (i.e., oocytes). Specifically, ablation of Dnmt2 led to aberrant profiles of tRNA-derived small RNAs (tsRNAs) and other small noncoding RNAs (sncRNAs) in sperm, which correlate with altered mRNA transcriptomes in pronuclear zygotes derived from wild type oocytes carrying the Kit paramutation and a complete blockage of transmission of the paramutant phenotype through oocytes. Together, the present study suggests that both paternal and maternal transmission of epigenetic phenotypes requires intact DNMT2 functions in the male germline.The conformational landscape of the cyclohexanolSO2 cluster was revealed in the gas phase using chirped-pulsed broadband rotational spectroscopy and quantum chemical calculations. Four isomers stabilized by a dominant SO chalcogen bond and cooperative C-HO[double bond, length as m-dash]S and O-HO[double bond, length as m-dash]S secondary weak hydrogen bonds were observed, with a near-parallel orientation of the S[double bond, length as m-dash]O and O-H bonds. Isomers formed by equatorial-gauche cyclohexanol are more stable than the isomers containing axial cyclohexanol. The multiple conformations of cyclohexanol and the versatile binding properties of SO2, simultaneously operating as nucleophile and electrophile through its π-holes and non-bonding electrons lead to a complex conformational behavior when the cluster is formed. The long (2.64-2.85 Å) attractive SO interaction between SO2 and cyclohexanol is mainly electrostatic and the contribution of charge transfer is obvious, with an NBO analysis suggesting that the strength of the SO interaction is nearly two orders of magnitude larger than the hydrogen bonds.
