Transient focal neurological episodes (TFNEs) are brief disturbances in motor, somatosensory, visual or language functions that can occur in patients with cerebral amyloid angiopathy (CAA) and may be difficult to distinguish from transient ischemic attacks (TIAs) or other transient neurological syndromes. They herald a high rate of future lobar intracerebral hemorrhage, making it imperative to differentiate them from TIAs to avoid potentially dangerous use of antithrombotic drugs. Cortical spreading depression or depolarization triggered by acute or chronic superficial brain bleeding, a contributor to brain injury in other neurological diseases, may be the underlying mechanism. This review discusses diagnosis, pathophysiology, and management of CAA-related TFNEs.The SARS-CoV-2 pandemic has caused a surge in research exploring all aspects of the virus and its effects on human health. The overwhelming publication rate means that researchers are unable to keep abreast of the literature. To ameliorate this, we present the CoronaCentral resource that uses machine learning to process the research literature on SARS-CoV-2 together with SARS-CoV and MERS-CoV. We categorize the literature into useful topics and article types and enable analysis of the contents, pace, and emphasis of research during the crisis with integration of Altmetric data. These topics include therapeutics, disease forecasting, as well as growing areas such as "long COVID" and studies of inequality. This resource, available at https//coronacentral.ai, is updated daily.Since its outbreak, COVID-19 has impacted world regions differentially. Whereas some regions still record tens of thousands of new infections daily, other regions have contained the virus. What explains these striking regional differences? We advance a cultural psychological perspective on mask usage, a precautionary measure vital for curbing the pandemic. Four large-scale studies provide evidence that collectivism (versus individualism) positively predicts mask usage-both within the United States and across the world. Analyzing a dataset of all 3,141 counties of the 50 US states (based on 248,941 individuals), Study 1a revealed that mask usage was higher in more collectivistic US states. Study 1b replicated this finding in another dataset of 16,737 individuals in the 50 US states. Analyzing a dataset of 367,109 individuals in 29 countries, Study 2 revealed that mask usage was higher in more collectivistic countries. Study 3 replicated this finding in a dataset of 277,219 Facebook users in 67 countries. The link between collectivism and mask usage was robust to a host of control variables, including cultural tightness-looseness, political affiliation, demographics, population density, socioeconomic indicators, universal health coverage, government response stringency, and time. Our research suggests that culture fundamentally shapes how people respond to crises like the COVID-19 pandemic. Understanding cultural differences not only provides insight into the current pandemic, but also helps the world prepare for future crises.Non-coding RNAs play a crucial role in various cellular processes in living organisms, and RNA functions heavily depend on molecule structures composed of stems, loops, and various tertiary motifs. Among those, the most frequent are A-minor interactions, which are often involved in the formation of more complex motifs such as kink-turns and pseudoknots. We present a novel classification of A-minors in terms of RNA secondary structure where each nucleotide of an A-minor is attributed to the stem or loop, and each pair of nucleotides is attributed to their relative position within the secondary structure. By analyzing classes of A-minors in known RNA structures, we found that the largest classes are mostly homogeneous and preferably localize with known A-minor co-motifs, e.g. tetraloop-tetraloop receptor and coaxial stacking. Detailed analysis of local A-minors within internal loops revealed a novel recurrent RNA tertiary motif, the across-bulged motif. Interestingly, the motif resembles the previously known GAAA/11nt motif but with the local adenines performing the role of the GAAA-tetraloop. By using machine learning, we show that particular classes of local A-minors can be predicted from sequence and secondary structure. The proposed classification is the first step toward automatic annotation of not only A-minors and their co-motifs but various types of RNA tertiary motifs as well.For many years technological limitations restricted the progress of identifying the underlying genetic causes of gynecologicalcancers. However, during the past decade, high-throughput next-generation sequencing technologies have revolutionized cancer research. RNA sequencing has arisen as a very useful technique in expanding our understanding of genome changes in cancer. Cancer is characterized by the accumulation of genetic alterations affecting genes, including substitutions, insertions, deletions, translocations, gene fusions, and alternative splicing. If these aberrant genes become transcribed, aberrations can be detected by RNA sequencing, which will also provide information on the transcript abundance revealing the expression levels of the aberrant genes. RNA sequencing is considered the technique of choice when studying gene expression and identifying new RNA species. This is due to the quantitative and qualitative improvement that it has brought to transcriptome analysis, offering a resolution that allows research into different layers of transcriptome complexity. It has also been successful in identifying biomarkers, fusion genes, tumor suppressors, and uncovering new targets responsible for drug resistance in gynecological cancers. To illustrate that we here review the role of RNA sequencing in studies that enhanced our understanding of the molecular pathology of gynecological cancers. To describe the clinical activity of metronomic cyclophosphamide in a population of patients with recurrent ovarian cancer, and to identify predictors of clinical response. We retrospectively reviewed all patients treated at our institution with oral metronomic cyclophosphamide for relapsed ovarian cancer between January 2012 and December 2016.
