Since vascular endothelial growth factor receptor 2 (VEGFR2) is highly expressed in pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC), VEGFR2-targeted microbubble (MB) might additionally increase the tissue specificity of drugs and thus improve antitumor effects. In addition, fixing the dual pulse intensity could maximize MB properties. This study evaluated the one-off (experiment 1) and cumulative (experiment 2) treatment effect of UTMD by regulating the dual pulse output applied to PDAC using VEGFR2-targeted MB. METHODS C57BL/6 mice inoculated with Pan-02 cells were allocated to five groups VEGFR2-targeted MB+ gemcitabine (GEM), VEGFR2-targeted MB, non-targeted MB+GEM, GEM, and control groups. V.BACKGROUND Hypertriglyceridemia (HTG) is a well-known cause of acute pancreatitis (AP) and elevation of serum triglycerides (TG) to ≥1000 mg/dl is strongly indicative of HTG-induced AP (HTG-AP). HTG-AP is potentially associated with persistent organ failure and poor prognosis. Here, we compared differences in clinical features and outcomes between patients with HTG-AP and patients with AP due to other causes. METHODS A prospective AP registry was constructed in Gil Medical Center between June 2014 and May 2018. In total, 499 patients with AP were included for whom serum TG data at admission were available. RESULTS HTG-AP was present in 52 patients (10.4%); these patients were younger than patients with AP due to other causes (39.62 ± 10.12 vs. 51.62 ± 17.41, p 10 mg/dl after 24 h of hospitalization. Maintenance of analgesia is best achieved with a background regimen (either programmed intermittent boluses or a continuous epidural infusion) supplemented with patient-controlled epidural analgesia and using dilute local anesthetics combined with opioids such as fentanyl. Nitrous oxide and systemic opioids are also used for pain relief. Nitrous oxide may improve satisfaction despite variable effects on pain. Systemic opioids can be administered by healthcare providers or using patient-controlled analgesia. Appropriate choice of drug should take into account the stage and progression of labor, local safety protocols, and maternal and fetal/neonatal side effects. OBJECTIVES Deficits in strength of lower limb musculature have been associated with increased injury risk in a variety of athletic populations. As medical and performance staff seek to better understand the association between hip and knee strength measures and injury risk, measurement tools with high reliability and utility are required to profile and manage athletes effectively. The purpose of this study was to investigate the test-retest reliability of a portable fixed frame dynamometry system used to assess hip and knee strength of an elite Australian Football League team. DESIGN Case series. METHODS Maximum voluntary isometric strength of the hip abductors, hip adductors and knee flexors of 41 elite male Australian Football League footballers (mean age=23.7±4.1 years, height=189.2±7.0cm, weight=88.6±8.4kg) were tested during preseason training. Tests were performed one week apart on the same training day of a standard preseason week. RESULTS Test-retest reliability was very high for left hip adduction (ICC 0.958), right hip adduction (ICC 0.955), left hip abduction (ICC 0.957), right hip abduction (ICC 0.945), left knee flexion (ICC 0.927) and right knee flexion (ICC 0.923). Furthermore, standard errors of measurement in per cent (SEM%) ranged from 3.21 to 5.03%, and minimal detectable change (MDC) from 3.93 to 6.65kg for the different hip and thigh strength measures, making it possible to determine small changes in strength at the individual level. CONCLUSIONS This study demonstrated very high reliability when testing maximal voluntary isometric hip and knee strength using a portable fixed dynamometry system (KangaTech) in an elite male Australian Football League setting. INTRODUCTION Adolescents exposed to second-hand smoke have a higher risk of morbidity. This is one of the main preventable public health problems in Latin America. OBJECTIVE To determine the prevalence and sociodemographic factors associated with exposure to second-hand tobacco smoke at home and out-of-home, in school adolescents from Tunja-Colombia. METHODOLOGY This cross-sectional study included 1100 school students, aged between 11 and 19 years. The information was obtained using a self-administered and totally anonymous questionnaire. For the analysis, the proportions of everyday exposure and the mean number of days of exposure to second-hand smoke during a regular week were estimated. For the associations, ordinal logistic regression and negative binomial regression models were performed. RESULTS The average age of the participants was 14.5 years, with the majority (59%) being female. As regards second-hand tobacco smoke exposure at home, an everyday prevalence of 4.9% was found, from 1 to 6 days of 14.7%, with a mean exposure of 0.
