BACKGROUND More than 2000 studies demonstrate adverse childhood experiences ACEs are universal and that experiencing multiple ACEs increases risk for developing physical and psychosocial health problems in adulthood. https://www.selleckchem.com/products/fgf401.html A challenge faced by clinicians is identifying those most at risk. Recent evidence suggests socio-ecological resilience may mitigate the consequences ACEs. We hypothesize that integrated assessment of ACEs and resilience might improve identification of those at highest risk. OBJECTIVES We examined ACEs among adults attending a rural family practice clinic and explored associations between ACE, socio-ecological resilience and health. METHODS A cross-sectional survey measured ACEs, resilience, and health in adult patients attending a collaborative family health care centre in Lunenburg, Nova Scotia, Canada. Correlation analyses were used to determine associations between the measures. The impact of socio-economic status, level of education and gender was considered. RESULTS Two hundred and twenty-six persons participated in this study. Approximately 73 % of participants had experienced at least one ACEs and 31 % experienced 4 or more. Overall with increasing numbers of ACEs prevalence of health problems increased. However, individuals with high resilience scores had lower prevalence of health problems. Regression analyses indicated that the number of ACEs were slightly more important predictor of health issues than level of resilience, though both were important. Social economic status, education level and gender were not significant predictors of the impact of ACEs on person's health. CONCLUSION The results suggest integrated assessment for resilience and ACEs may facilitate identification of those at higher risk and in need of preventative intervention. OBJECTIVE Characterize long bone fracture morphology among children diagnosed with medical conditions linked to bone health. PARTICIPANTS AND SETTING Patients 1 long bone fracture. Of the 216 fractures, 55 (25.5 %) were in children less then 1 year, 118 (54.6 %) were associated with known trauma, and 122 (56.5 %) were in non-ambulatory patients. Lower extremity fractures occurred with greatest frequency and most fractures occurred at the mid-diaphysis. Transverse was the most common fracture type in all diagnostic categories. Children with metabolic disorders had highest odds of transverse fracture (COR 3.55, CI 1.45-8.67; neurologic disorders as reference group). CONCLUSIONS Diseases affecting bone health can influence fracture morphology. Transverse fractures were most common in bones impacted by disease. Bisphenol A (BPA) exposure during early life may increase risk of childhood obesity, however, prospective evidence of birth cohort is limited and inconclusive. We aimed to explore the associations of maternal and childhood BPA exposure with child adiposity measures, including body mass index, waist circumference and skinfold thickness and waist to height ratio of children at 7 years. 430 mother-child pairs were examined from a population-based prospective cohort in a rural area of East China. BPA concentrations of spot urine samples were quantified in mothers and their children aged 3 and 7 years. Maternal urinary BPA concentration was significantly positively associated with waist circumference in children aged 7 years (β = 0.508 cm, 95% CI 0.067, 0.950). These significant associations were not modified by child sex, but they were only observed among girls in sex-stratified analyses. Risk of central obesity related to prenatal BPA exposure was significantly higher in the second and the third tertile than those in the first tertile (odds ratio, OR = 2.510, 95% CI = 1.146, 5.499; OR = 2.584, 95% CI = 1.186, 5.631, respectively; p for trend = 0.022). The present findings suggested that prenatal exposure to BPA may enhance waist circumference of children and thereby increase risk of central obesity in school-age girls. The comprehensive identification of organic species existing in indoor environments is a key issue to understand their impact in human health. This study proposes the analysis of condensed water samples, collected with portable dehumidifiers, to characterize semi-volatile compounds in the gas phase of confined areas. Water samples are concentrated by solid-phase extraction (SPE). The obtained extracts are analysed by gas chromatography (GC) time-of-flight mass spectrometry (TOF-MS), following a non-target screening data mining approach. In first term, spectra of deconvoluted compounds are compared with those in NIST low resolution library; thereafter, tentative identifications are verified using an in-house database of accurate electron ionization (EI) MS spectra. Chromatographic (retention index) and spectral data are combined for unambiguous species identification. The potential of condensed water samples to reflect changes in the composition of indoor atmospheres, the match between data obtained using different dehumidifiers, and the relative concentration efficiency of condensed water compared to that attained by active sampling of moderate air volumes are discussed. A total of 141 semi-volatile compounds were identified (98 confirmed against authentic standards) in a set of 21 samples obtained from different homes and working places. This list contains more than 40 fragrances (including several potential allergens), solvents and intermediates in the production of polymeric materials, plasticizers and flame retardants. Heterogeneous catalytic ozonation had met the bottlenecks when treating low concentration but high toxic pollutants (i) the low mass transfer efficiency of ozone and pollutants to hydrophilic catalyst; (ii) the negative impact of coexisted water matrixes. Herein, to enhance the mass transfer efficiency of reactants toward hydrophilic Fe-MCM-41 as well as enhance the interfacial reaction, the fluoride planting Fe-MCM-41 (F-Fe-MCM-41) was synthesized and employed as catalyst in catalytic ozonation for nitrobenzene (NB). Both NB and TOC removal were promoted in F-Fe-MCM-41/O3 with 99.0 % NB removal in 60 min and 88.6 % TOC removal in 120 min, which were superior to the degradation efficiency by O3 and Fe-MCM-41/O3. FTIR, EPR, Mössbauer spectra, 29Si NMR, 19F NMR et al verified that the replacement of non-reactive silanols (-Si-OH) of Fe-MCM-41 with SiF groups could enhance its hydrophobicity, Lewis acidity and mass transfer effect. Comparative characterizations, experiments and theoretical calculations verified that interfacial reaction played the major role over liquid phase reaction for NB degradation in F-Fe-MCM-41/O3.
