The sensor is located near the transmission's edge just above the flywheel gear. It transmits a signal to the ECU via a grey wire T55/49, then to the tachometer located on the instrument cluster. 1. Engine Speed Sensor The grey wire is situated on the outside of the transmission, above the flywheel ring. The sensor transmits an electrical signal through the grey wire to pin T55/49. The ECU then uses this information to control the boost, fuel, and timig. It also sends an indication to the G5 Tachometer within the instrument cluster. The sensor is used as a reference to correlate with the G40 Camshaft Position Sensor. The ecu must be aware when the crankshaft is TDC and the location of the camshaft so it can activate spark and injectors according to the situation. If this sensor fails the ECU will throw a P00160 code which means the Crank Shaft and Intake Camshaft aren't in sync, possibly indicating the chain is stretched or a jump link on the upper chain of timing. However, the error code won't be displayed on its own without additional information from other sensors (G4 and G40). Testing is a bit tricky because there are two connector pins, and they perform different functions but the most effective way to test it is by measuring resistance between the sensor and the ECU. When the sensor is operational, it should be reading about 1000 ohms. Look for signs of coolant or oil in the connector bay if there are issues with this part. 2.
